Re: Pro Bowl Selections
I LOVE this quote... He gets so many extra chances because NOBODY can cover him! If you're open every down, you're gonna get thrown the ball a lot. He makes his own extra chances, nobody else.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Welker has only blown up once he arrived in New England the same year as Moss.
Credit to Moss.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
He gets so many extra chances because no one CARES about covering him. Every DC in the league would trade 12 receptions for Welker for under 4 by Randy Moss. Welker is the most overrated player in the NFL. There are @ least 10, maybe 20 wideouts better than Welker. The guy has 1 TD for every 30 receptions.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Then why doesn't Kevin Walter get 120 catches per season.
A player people always used to call the Wes Welker of Houston.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
No one in the NFL is scared of Welker. DC"s will center their gameplan on Moss, Andre Johnson, Dexter Jackson, Wayne, Marshall, Fitz, Smith. They don't give a flip about Welker.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Nice season by Orakpo, but I don't think this has much to do with DROY. Different people doing the selecting and Pro Bowl voting is slanted to not include late season performances as much. I think Clay Mathews has as good a chance at DROY.When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
It has nothing to do with DROY, but seeing how he was the only rookie selected it can't hurt his chances. I naturally see him as the DROY, but I'm a skins fan so I'm probably looking through maroon colored glasses.Moderator

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
I honestly would say either is deserving but Witten beats Gonzo in every stat except TDs where we know Dallas uses him as a blocker more than a receiving threat. On top of that, he is the main cog in the offense, take out Witten & there is a huge dropoff in everything the Cowboys can do in terms of protection, passing & running... heck, even the entire offensive scheme would change. Not trying to start a debate but if you have to choose one, you can make a very strong case that the Cowboys are a mere shell of their team without Witten while the Falcons proved last year they can move the ball without Gonzo.Comment

Sure Welker may put up slightly better numbers, but take Welker off the team and add any decent WR and they'll do a lot better replacing Welker than another Welker would do replacing Moss.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
As a Patriot fan...I completely disagree. Without Welker, this offense runs no where near as smoothly. Welker may not have the best skill set and clearly isn't as physically gifted, but he is absolutely perfect for the Patriots offense. Teams gameplan on Moss and can't cover Welker. It's not that they "refuse" to cover him, he just has a knack for getting open.
Oh, and calling him "the most overrated player in the league" is hysterical. Welker is never considered one of the best receivers in the league, is never talked about in the same breath as Fitz, Johnson, Moss, Wayne, etc.....so how is he overrated? He's hands down the best #2/slot receiver in the league and that should not even be an arguable fact.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Agreed. Probably the best all around TE in the league for the past few seasons. He may not get the TD numbers but he's indespensible for the offense: blocking, catching, motioning to create mismatches, finding soft spots on 3rd downs, etc he does it all. When you have a guy who can make LBs look silly covering him, Safeties look like kids trying to tackle him and DEs getting pancaked/shoved out of the way on runs you really have a special player.Last edited by elgreazy1; 12-30-2009, 02:09 PM.Comment
