Because whether or not she is/was a prostitute isn't related to anything at all. So the question is what was he after?

Was he trying to find out more about his family? Ask him to talk about his family, his mother specifically, what she's done for a living, anything else questionable besides selling drugs.

Was he trying to test how he'd handle the question? Either ask a question that doesn't have to do with his mother or, AT THE VERY LEAST, after the interview explain that the question was asked to test how he'd respond in that situation.

The idea that this was an acceptable question in any situation is ridiculous... unless, of course you're a pimp and have an opening.
I'm sure they had a few openings lol. Perfectly fair question.

Dez: I take it you mean her being a drug dealer. Yes she did sell drugs and was put in jail for it.

Ireland: That isn't what I'm referring to Dez.

Dez: Well what exactly are you talking about sir?

All of this is a stretch unless I'm missing somewhere that it suggested that she actually is a prostitute. I haven't heard or read anything other than her selling drugs. So there really is no correct way to ask a question that's completely out of left field to begin with. Otherwise, he could've simply asked about anything negative she may have been involved in. If they knew she was a prostitute and he lied then just leave it at that and don't take him. And even if they did know and wanted to ask straight up, he could've said "In your background check we found that your mother may be a prostitute. Is this true?"

The way he said it was as insulting as the question itself, especially if there's nothing to lead to that being asked.

And this isn't directed at you jmood... it's the whole idea of properly phrasing a question about something that came out of nowhere.

I will say that while the question was unjust, I still defend Jeff Ireland in the fact that he is a pretty good guy.

Plus, there has to be more to this story then just Ireland asking that question, what lead to the question, why is this a story now, it was said to have happened at the combine, why make it a big story now?

That is probably as good as It's going to get.

Probably because he only mentioned it now.

It actually came out before. Somebody actually posted it here at OS but I can't remember where they got the info from, and if from a link, why it didn't get more legs at the time. I think it's blowing up now bc ESPN decided to talk about it which means all other tv and radio outlets followed their lead. Overall, I think it's pretty messed up (don't know Ireland so I can't say it's par for the course or surprising but messed up either way) but not that big of a story. Just something else to talk about.

In other news, apparently JaWalrus is still going to be on the team and will attend training camp...per Schefter's twitter http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/13025765796

I pray that this is all apart of Al's devious plan to have all eyes on Raiders minicamp then cut his *** and have the Raiders on the news for the entire weekend.

Oh and to keep this relevant to the draft I read that the 2012 pick for Jason Campbell is a conditional 4th in 2012. They only get the pick if Campbell makes the pro bowl, so the Raiders essentially got Campbell for nothing.

What a steal, literally. Raiders finally made a good trade. Even if he doesn't work out, you still got him for free(unless he somehow makes the Pro Bowl which is very very doubtful).

The only person reporting it is John Clayton.

Every other report is based off one of his blogs. I'll wait until someone else says anything about it.
