Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Bears land undrafted free agents:
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Sunday agreed to terms with 12 undrafted rookie free agents, including record-breaking wide receiver Freddie Barnes and four Big 10 products.
Bowling Green wide receiver Freddie Barnes caught 155 passes last season.
Barnes, a Chicago area native who graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 2005, was an ultra-productive three-year starter at Bowling Green. Last season the 6-foot, 212-pounder set an NCAA single-season record with 155 receptions and led the nation in receiving touchdowns with 19.
The Big 10 prospects who joined the Bears are Michigan receiver Greg Mathews and running back Brandon Minor, Indiana linebacker Matt Mayberry and Ohio State defensive end Lawrence Wilson.
The other undrafted free agents who agreed to terms with the Bears are UTEP cornerback Cornelius Brown, Montana offensive tackle Levi Horn, Nicholls State wide receiver Antonio Robinson, Texas A&M-Kingsville defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, Northern Iowa safety Quentin Scott, Nebraska defensive end Barry Turner and Colorado State center Tim Walter.Comment

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Gun to my head, they didn't draft him because they think he was worthy of their second round pick.
People put far too much stock into ESPN's television personalities say and too little stock into what the people whose careers depend on making good draft decisions do.Comment

Kiper starts to backtrack on Fins grade: "I might have been a little harsh"
He also admitted he “might have been a little harsh” rating the efforts of Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland and the Dolphins braintrust among the six lamest in the league - ahead of just one team (Jacksonville) and tied with four others.
Kiper’s low grade came down to two players: TCU pass rusher Jerry Hughes and Utah linebacker Koa Misi.
“Jerry Hughes and Koa Misi is the issue I have, it just boils down to that,” Kiper said Tuesday during a conference call. “I was big Jerry Hughes guy. I thought he was perfect for a 3-4, so subjectively when a team passed on him … remember New England passed on him, too.”
Quote:
“I have no problem with Odrick and Misi. I expected Odrick to be a first-round pick. I thought Misi would go in that third-round area, maybe the second, and he did.
“They weren’t reaches, they’re good football players. I just would have gone a different way.”
Quote:
“Of all those grades I gave that might have been a little harsh, that’s the only team I might have adjusted,” Kiper said. “It’s a very subjective gut feel, I put those things up 10 minutes after the draft.

I don't know, seems like Tavaris Jackson just about singlehandedly got Brad Childress fired a couple years ago... I'd at least have taken a flyer.Comment

I'm getting tired of hearing he's "the most NFL ready," etc...I'm glad the Seahawks didnt' take him in the first round, but if he was still there at #60, I would've been ok with it, or maybe even with trading up.

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland related Misi's talent by saying he "terrorized" Alabama with three sacks in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. The player with three sacks that game was Stevenson Sylvester, whom Pittsburgh drafted in the fifth round Saturday.
Utah had eight sacks in that Sugar Bowl. Misi didn't have any.

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Curious to hear what Dolphins fans think of the following article....
The line of questioning with these potential draft picks is laughable and blows my mind in all honesty. On top of that, the treatment by the Dolphins as it pertains to Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor is a joke as well. If Im a free agent and I hear all this Im, at the very least, slightly hesitant to sign with them.
EDIT- Asking Toby Gerhart if he feels entitled because he is a white RB is such a ridiculous question. What do they expect him to say?Comment

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Last Wednesday, the night before he was selected 24th overall by the Cowboys, former Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant(notes) told me that during one of his predraft visits, a high-level executive of one NFL franchise had asked him if his mother, Angela, was a prostitute.
“No, my mom is not a prostitute,” said Bryant, whose background – including his mother’s lifestyle and past legal troubles – was under great scrutiny prior to the draft. “I got mad – really mad – but I didn’t show it.”NFL:New York Jets

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Funny how people are quick to peg Bryant as a bad seed yet the type of questioning he was receiving was beyond anything moral. If someone at any level of job were to ask me a question like that pertaining to my mother there would either be a punch to that person's face or simply, I'd just walk out of the interview. The audacity of some people these days.Comment
