Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Yeh. I would rather Sproles go then Merriman.
Im not set on English yet, and we have Phillips who isnt signed long term either.
Merriman has something to prove, and I love his personality. If he doesnt bring this year then oh well, English will hopefully have developed by then.
I just dont wanna see another Rodney Harrison situation...Originally posted by WatsonTigerOne out of 7 billion, and we still tagged your ***.Comment

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
I am absolutely appalled that jimmy clausen was not selected. He is the best QB in the draft literally. he has
Solid size
Very good arm strength; can fit balls into tight windows
Extremely quick, snappy release
Great accuracy
Gets rid of ball quickly
Very decisive with the football
Elite football IQ
Well versed in NFL offense
Good sense of timing
Will step up/out of pocket
Knows how to read coverage
Sees the entire field; great vision
Very polished for a true junior
Shown outstanding development from freshman to junior season
Extremely intelligent
Mentally tough; plays through pain
Elite intangibles
Good genetics and very well coached
Spent 3.5 years in a West Coast offense
i mean if that doesn't convince you what will?

Went 6-6 during a year that they had a legitiment chance to go 12-0 / 11-1 .
Has an ego larger than an ostritch.
The fact that not 1, not 2, not 3...but 32 teams passed on him already...certainly means that they arent as high on him as the so called draft experts. If he turns out to be a great QB, then the team that drafts him gets a great deal.
In reality though, drafts are nothing more than crap shoots anyways. A bunch of 1st rounders end up busting, and a lot of late round picks end up shining.
In closing, he will get his chance.Comment

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Alright, here's my analysis of the Jaguars pick although no one gives a rat's ***.
I've heard a lot of people complaining that we should have drafted down, etc... but it probably didn't happen for one reason. The Jaguars best shot to trade the pick was if C.J. Spiller was still available, and of course, he went right before Jacksonville went on the clock. So I'm sure that's one reason we didn't make that trade.
I also read that Gene Smith had Alualu rated in the same tier of quality as Suh. I'm very interested to know how they came to this conclusion, but I'm not going to start doubting Gene Smith with how he drafted last year. Even though the experts said Jacksonville reached by half a round, it's our only pick in the first two rounds. And if Gene thought he was a great prospect, I have no qualms with taking him at 10, even though we could have gotten him at 22.
As for future picks, we don't have one in the 2nd. However, if we were to pick up Pike or LeFevour in the 3rd or 4th, I'll be as giddy as a schoolgirl. I think those two will be in the top 3 QBs out of this draft, I really do. Other than that, I want Gene to play by his rules: BAP, and I'm not going to take anyone else. I have no indication that he's not going to... so I'm pleased. I'll have to wait and see on how the Jaguars do.
I'm really glad Jacksonville didn't cave to the fairweather UF fans to draft Tebow. Once the thrill of Tebow on the sidelines wore off of the fans of UF, they probably wouldn't stay. The best way to get people in the seats is win, which is what Gene Smith has his eye on. He's not going to draft gimmicks, obviously. I'm very pleased about that.
And of course, the trade thing has been done before (I just heard it by McShay), but I came up with that myself, lol.Last edited by The GIGGAS; 04-23-2010, 07:47 AM.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
The Cowboys drafting of Dez Bryant was a huge break. Sure the team needed some help at other spots like Safety & OL but this was simply a player they could not pass up on. If the Cowboys truly feel they are a Super Bowl team then adding Bryant can further add to the weaponry of that offense. Witten/Bennett - Austin - Choice/Jones/Barber - Crayton/Ogletree/Williams & now Bryant... that is a lot of versatility across the entire roster.
Character issues? Hmm, well the guy lied about not being in contact with a former pro player (who steadily mentors young players) because he didn't want to get in trouble, which I can understand. Seems like a double standard at times when you see other players at pro golf events, etc. Funny thing is the guy will have the likes of Irvin & Sanders in Dallas as support (is that a bad thing?) but will be coming onto a roster with some veteran leadership.Comment

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
Kudos to my Vikings for their trade with Detroit.
Honestly, no one was sitting out there with the 30th pick that was that awe inspiring, so now, we get 2 second round picks, plus an extra 4th round pick for basically trading down a few spots in the pecking order.
I'd like to see Minnesota grab Taylor Mays and Ben Tate in the second round. Kind of pissed that most of the top DBs were already gone by the 30th pick.
Mays could play S or be moved to OLB. Ben (aside from me wanting another Auburn guy on the Vikings) would fit in nicely for Chester Taylor as he is a bigger back with top level speed and solid hands.AUBURN TIGERS

Re: 2010 NFL Draft Thread
While I don't think Alaula is in the same class as Suh, I definitely think he's in the same class as Odrick. I had this debate with guys in the Madden chat that were doing ratings and they were ragging on him because they had never heard of him. With Alaula you have a guy that can play 3 and 5 technique and has put up similar numbers to Jared Odrick over the last two seasons. He may could have been had later in the round and if there is anything to criticize it might be that. However, I think he will be a really good player for the Jags.Rose City 'Til I Die
