It's not that we're not high on him but he wants to start, not backup and he wouldn't get that chance while if he stayed here.

That and unlike Mike Shanahan (for example) it seems that Mike McCarthy can develop QBs in his system. So why pay Flynn more money to be a back-up when you can get a guy in the later rounds and develop "the next Matt Flynn".

It's also just a respect thing within some organizations. If a backup that has some potential but will see basically no playing time at all sometimes they will just be let go.

Thanks for the explanation, I guess i'm old school in that I think having a real good backup who wants to start is better than having "just a guy".

I still think Flynn will suck tho.

I don't get the Flynn is good discussion. Much like I didn't get the Kevin Kolb for 2 first rounders stuff.

Franchise him them trade him? What's is the tag number gonna be 10mil plus what will his trade value on top of that be?

I think the Pack are going for a Matt Shaub value on Flynn. The difference is that Shaub proved he was the man multiple times with the Falcons. Flynn got 2? starts.

The only thing keeping us from tagging Flynn is that we don't have the cap space right now(which could be taken by just releasing Clifton and Driver).

That being said, if the Eagles can get DRC and a 2nd rounder for Kolb then it should be no problem for us to get something at least CLOSE to that whether it's a player AND a pick or just picks altogether. You can easily find 1 idiot out of 31 other idiots.

I think once HGH testing finally starts, whomever ends up with Landry can expect him to miss some time.

You can get that big by training really hard, plus he's had plenty of time to do that since he hasn't played in awhileeeeee.

The only way the Packers franchise Flynn is if they have a deal in place. It's risky move but it's better than getting nothing.

                      Flynn 9 TD's 5 INT's

                      Schuab 6 TD's 6 INT's

And Also GB and McCarthy has a better history at developing good QBs.

Kolb never showed anything. Product of Eagle FO fluffing.

Kolb had that one good game against the Saints when Vick was hurt.

Actually Schaub didn't really prove much in Atlanta. In any case the advantage of all these guys (Schaub, Kolb, Flynn) is that they've been in the league learning how to play NFL football so the unknown with them should still be more reliable than the unknown of a rookie. That's why they usually cost more than we'd expect from what we've seen.

Flynn has been productive everytime he's played for the most part in the NFL and in his college days at LSU, if my team needed a QB i'd take the chance on him. However I'm not sure i'd give up something to land him depending what the asking price is.
