Yeah, it's probably not even relevant to this discussion that I keep bringing up alcohol anyway.

What it comes down to for me is the NFL can easily send the "weed is bad, kids" message by punishing players if they are doing things like flaunting it on their social media accounts or run afoul of the law for it. Come up with guidelines for that. I just don't think it's necessary for them to include it in their recreational test.

I agree, but I don't know what can be done unless they remove it from testing during the next CBA negotiations. I'm in the "it's not a big deal" camp, but I think the powers want to keep it for the "IQ Test" parameters.

Basically I guess I'm saying I can see both ends of the discussion, is weed really bad? not really, and most people would probably agree with that, but also within the testing schedules a user should be able to abstain long enough to pass.

It's complicated when it becomes weed v alcohol since you don't need to pass an alcohol test. Actually makes me wonder how many guys would fail if there WAS an alcohol test. I'm probably making your point for you lol, took me awhile to get there, but until the green stuff is federally legal it can't really be compared to alcohol. Seems like I've made a federal legality discussion more than an NFL discussion so I should probably stop rambling.

      Bullet points:

      • Weed is kinda bad but not really, yet illegal.
      • Alcohol is probably worse but, but legal.
      • You should be able to pass a pee test given all the knowledge.
      • If the laws were different a pee test for weed wouldn't be necessary.

I say the most critical thing I've ever said about the guy and this is the thanks I get.
I might regret going down this road, but I don't see what's so annoying about JJ Watt.

I'd much rather have most of the league doing what he does off the field than having to constantly read and hear about these idiots that can't put the pipe down for a couple months, beating their women, etc, etc.

Oh yeah, I get that. And obviously the media/Hard Knocks is going to beat everyone over the head with that, but that's no fault of his own.

To be honest I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with him because it's way too good to be true. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I think the main thing is that it ultimately comes down to an IQ test, and I have no problem with that. How many NFL players do you think discreetly are heavy marijuana users? Or at least are smart about it? I'm guessing quite a few, considering how apparently easy it is to get away with it.

I don't really care if a guy gets busted, multiple times even. It's really of no concern to me. But at that point, knowing what I know, I've lost all sympathy. If some average ****ing Joe can pull his **** together to make >50k a year, then frankly, **** these guys who've been coddled their whole playing careers and can't suck it up for a few months to make a few more million.

I'd venture to guess there's a good amount of NFL players who smoke but don't get caught. Just like there's plenty of people who do it but don't get caught by their jobs drug testing or the law, whatever it is in their locality.

Yeah it sounds like josh Gordon is out of control or unable to break the habit and Bryant may also be similar.

There are people who let the habit affect their work and relationships so even if there were no pot screening, some players may get into trouble, like being late or missing meetings, not working as hard during the week, etc.

Steelers may have anticipated problems and also drafted Coates, who also has big play potential.

People thats on probation cant stop smoking to stay out of jail. My best friends mom is a probation officer and you would be amazed at how many people fail drug tests. And unless you have a drug related or alcohol charges, they get drug tested everytime they report, you get drug tested randomly when you have to report.

So its not surprising nfl players get caught as much.

So Bryant gets a suspension and now he's Josh Gordon and the Steelers focused their draft around it?

                      Overreact much?

Their Strength and Conditioning coach was hysterical.

From reading the last couple pages, I think the thing to take away from all of this is to never trust the NFL as far as how it enforces its substance abuse & PED policies, or even the policies themselves.

Punishing players for weed in 2015. What kind of world is this?

Not sure how you came to that, they're both pretty clear policies. It's the players claiming adderall and other stuff that shows where trust absolutely shouldn't be placed.

A world where businesses still have the right to test their employees for drugs? I get that weed is more accepted these days as a soft recreational drug, but we're still a ways off from it being on par with having a few beers on Friday night. And unless you're a chronic weed smoker (pun intended), you can get away with some light-to-moderate weed smoking pretty easily as it is. Until it makes you dumb enough to fail repeated tests, lol.
