Slot receivers that can return and line up in the backfield occasionally are nice, but you cannot build a team around them.
I think you are underestimating Percy Harvin a little bit. The games AD was not playing in last season were probably Harvin's most productive games of that year. When Peterson was away from week 12 to 14, Harvin's numbers for those games were:

week 12: 95 rec yards, 1 rec td
      week 13: 156 rec yards, 2 rec tds;
week 14: 69 rec yards, 1 rec td, 40 rush yards.

And when Peterson was out on the final week of the season with a torn ACL and MCL, Harvin posted 115 rec yards and 1 rushing touchdown.

But I would say Peterson is more valuable than Harvin because if you look at even the monster receivers like Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson, they were not able to win games until they found a better QB and maybe a running game in some cases. We've seen what Peterson has done alone and he was able to carry his team to victories.

Guys like Harvin, Cobb, and Sproles just make things easier for offenses. Great players to have yes, but generally they are not franchise players.

Percy Harvin is the best Offensive Player in the Game?

He may not even be one of the 5 best Offensive Players in his own division yet I'm supposed to believe he's the best Offensive Player in the Game?

I've seen AP single handedly put teams on his back and win games for them(Packers-Vikings game in 2008 @ Minnesota comes to mind)so when Percy does that, then maybe I'll put him up there with Peterson.

I guess there's not a lot of Panther fans here because I still don't see any post mentioning the firing of Panthers GM Marty Hurney.

AP might be the best offensive player in the NFL.

If I'm starting a team right now, he's 2nd on my list behind Aaron Rodgers.

I'm with you, Candyman. Someone mentioned Harvin needing to be in the vote for MVP a few weeks ago and it made me start taking a closer look. He has a very valid case, especially considering the Vikings are now 5-2. Peterson is otherworldy but that doesn't take away from Percy. Comparing him to Cobb is insulting until we see Cobb placed as a #1 WR with an entire offense run through him and he shines. Maybe he will, Victor Cruz was in Cobb's position not too long ago. But right now, Harvin is doing it, has done it, and deserves the props.

Already mentioned with stats included but when AP went down the ENTIRE offense went through Harvin and he didn't disappoint one bit. And Harvin has never had anything close to Nelson/Jones/Finley/Jennings along with him... or Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball to him.

As someone else mentioned, AP broke records w/ the likes of Gus Ferotte (sp?) and T. Jackson at QB. Gonna take a little more than half a season to convince me Harvin is anywhere near as valuable as AP

Are you sure about this now or are you forgetting about 2009, when at that time Sidney Rice was just as good as any of those WRs, if not better than that group.

Sure he's never had a young MVP QB in his prime, but it is a bit dishonest to say he's never played with a WR as good as ours were in his career.

It'd be an interesting comparison but I'd more likely to give Harvin the edge because he's done it over a longer period of time than Cobb has.

Other than that, an argument could be made for either side.

Push: Speed, Return Ability, End Around Impact, Open Field Impact

Harvin Edge: Route Running, Receiving Impact, Power Running (Harvin can line up at H-back in the I and be effective), Blocking

Harvin outperforms Cobb even though the defense has to key on him on every play he's on the field. Cobb makes cameos in the passing game as 2 or 3 other than him have to be accounted for. The QB throwing the ball to each player isn't a contest.

Give me Harvin and it isn't close. He's a far more complete football player than Cobb could ever dream of being.

PS - It makes me sick to be defending Vikings players against Packers players. What are you doing to me Pack?!

So i hear that there is a big fiasco over the Redskin's team name; as it may be a derogatory and/or politically incorrect term.

I read that some DC based media outlets have stopped using the 'Redskins' name and substituted 'Pigskins' instead.

How do you guys feel about this? I know its tradition for the franchise but I can understand if a culture in this country is upset and are against it. I dont think they change it anytime soon but i'd like to start up the Bandwagon for The Washington Bobs.

Actually believe or not, despite Harvin's impressive stats when AD when down, he still wasn't the focal point of the offense.

In week 13, Devin Aromashodu was in on 77 snaps vs Harvin's 52 snaps and in week 14, Aromashodu played in 80 snaps, Greg Camarillo was in on 59 snaps, and Harvin had 57 snaps.

I'm not sure how Percy Harvin is being used this year, but you could say he was being underutilized in seasons past.
