Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Titus Young will not play vs. Houston this Thursday. Was sent home today from the facility, and has been benched for behavior on Sunday and clashes with coaches.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
But it's said that fines haven't been working (I agree) so if the new thing is suspension then it is what it is. Reed clearly didn't intend to hit Sanders in the head but being real, we all know the rule now. Players need to approach trying to avoid the possibility rather than just saying what they didn't mean to do after it happened. I'm sure everyone who's played football will cringe at this, but he needs to go in at the knee to sweep the leg... only real way to assure not hitting in the head in that situation.
Also, Reed's injuries have been effecting his tackling ability for years. In many cases like this one he would just move out of the way or close to it. Just a sad state of where he is right now... doesn't change the fact that a head to head collision could shorten a player's career/life. As long as the league is consistent with this stronger penalty I'm actually fine with it.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
My issue is saying it's because of repeated offenses. If the new standard is that players will get suspended then it is what it is, but repeated offenses over a 3 years span where only one of the 3 seemed blatantly disregarding the new rules (and that one was in the first year of the rule change)? That's crap to me.

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
From NFL EVP Ray Anderson on Ed Reed:
“We want him to hit below the head and neck area,” Anderson said. “We’d like to see him use his shoulder. We’d like to see him wrap up in a more traditional technique. But we absolutely do not want to see head to head, shoulder, forearm to head or neck area, no real attempt to wrap, and almost going missile-like up high. We cannot have those in the game any longer.”
Anderson said that Reed, who was penalized on Sunday for a helmet-to-helmet hit, fined once earlier this year for a helmet-to-helmet hit and also fined in 2010 for a helmet-to-helmet hit, has run out of chances.
“Ed Reed, unfortunately, is a repeat offender. We put the burden on the defender to alter his target in those situations when a player is defenseless,” Anderson said. “Hits to the head and neck area potentially are life altering as well as career altering,” Anderson said. “Hits to the head and neck area are our biggest concern and we are absolutely intent on getting those out of the game. We can’t defer any longer to fines as the primary deterrent. They are not effective.”#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Said Cottrell in the letter to Reed: “I have determined that your actions were egregious and warrant significant discipline. However, I do not believe that your actions were so egregious as to subject you to a one-game suspension without pay. P layer safety is the league’s primary concern in the formation of playing rules and all players are expected to adhere to those rules or face disciplinary action. I hope in the future you will focus on ensuring that your play conforms to the rules.”Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
I love when he says wrap up more. As far as I can tell Ray Anderson has never played on the defensive side of the ball. He was a HS Quarterback and shortstop and as far as I can find played at Stanford. No mention of position. I get what he is saying, but if someone like Merton Hanks were to say wrap-up more it would carry more weight that a "suit"Moderator

Yeah, that I knew, but his scathing little criticism seems to be from a guy who never played defense.Moderator

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
He's also a guy who has reviewed every single illegal hit in the last couple of years, a lawyer, and has represented coaches and players. Hardly inexperienced at his job and certainly qualified to make those statements. I don't see a problem with the very common sense problem that he is trying to solve. Too much hitting, not enough tackling.
His scathing little criticism is coming from the guy who is going to recommend fines or suspensions for your actions.Comment
