Re: NFL Off Topic
Think it was more about the amount of retirements this year. My comment is certainly more applicable to Lynch and Johnson, but I was actually surprise to hear of the Allen retirement as well.

I don't blame these guys that have gotten their big pay day not wanting to squeeze 2 struggle years out of their bodies anymore. They simply don't have to these days.Comment

I'd somewhat disagree, 8-10 years is about what you'd expect for a star NFL player. What makes this different is that we're seeing some guys who seemingly have a lot in the tank retiring "earlier" than we expect them to. It doesn't help that it's all happening over the course of one offseason.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Jerod Mayo is the better case study. 29, dinged up but could pretty easily get another job. Took his money and left.NFL - Vikings

He's finished the last few years on the IR hasn't he? Great player and hate that his career has been cut short.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I would rather see cap space used in other areas instead of a McCown or Sanchez type backup QB. A QB currently developing in your system might not give the team as great a chance at winning, but I don't believe the gap is large enough that going the McCown or Sanchez route is undoubtedly the way to go about it.
Four week window or an entire season, I want the young kid out there.
I mean, if what you're paying your backup is reasonable, I don't think he's the make or break reason why you can't sign a FA to fill a gap elsewhere. Not sure many teams have been like, "Wish we could sign X player but we're paying our backup so much we just weren't able to do it."
I think there is a very big difference between McCown/Sanchez types and a rookie prospect who has no business being out there on the field yet. We've gone over how some of these QB prospects don't even know the seemingly most basic coverages. McCown/Sanchez know them and have seen them. They may still throw directly in to them, but I'll take my chances there.
Like I said, I'm with you on taking a chance on a prospect. But my starter goes down for 4-6 weeks, I want a guy who has experience. Putting in a player who is not ready is like forfeiting those games. Yes, there's a chance he could be the next Roethlisberger but it's overwhelming against him.
I just can't agree that if your starter goes down for a stretch of games that you should take a huge gamble on a player that isn't ready by all measures except actual game experience. That's just my outlook.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

I feel like there's a few other factors being left out that go beyond simply just saying "I rather go with a young, unproven guy than a retread" at QB.
Context is key here.#RespectTheCultureComment

And if starting Mark Sanchez as a backup is what saves your 8-8 season, you have bigger problems than who your backup is.Comment
