Re: NFL Off Topic
Really good, really long article about the demands of the QB position. Not exactly earth-shattering info, but a good read nonetheless.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Rob made a post a couple weeks ago about the rookie wage scale forcing vets out earlier. I tried to find it but after digging through 3 pages of Sam Bradford slander, I gave up.
But anyways, coaches and execs say the "youth movement" is starting to hurt the product:

Re: NFL Off Topic
Good read. A few thoughts:
-Technique isn't good right now, that can't be denied. If I had to assign blame, it'd be 65-35 Coaches. In fairness to them, most of it is due to the changes they've made due to "player safety".
Rivera cited footwork as a specific concern for today’s rookies. He’s troubled that young cornerbacks tend to backpedal with their bodies half open instead of facing the receiver and that new linebackers throw their bodies into plays to recklessly tackle, often leading to a missed tackle or an injury. He’s worried that the new breed of receiver runs limited routes in college.
Smith said the interaction was brief. “One, we were at a funeral,” he said. “Two, we don’t negotiate with coaches. If he has any issues he has an owner right upstairs. The owner reports to the management committee and they approach us about changes.” Smith said that over the life of the now five-year-old CBA, owners have not made a proposal about changing offseason procedures.
He said he’s currently “vetting the CBA” to figure out if he can send team employees to work out with players at their homes.
“I think about it all the time,” Harbaugh said of Walker’s death. “Maybe one of our guys goes into the garage, maybe we see the motorbike. We say ‘What’s this all about? Is this really safe?’”#RespectTheCultureComment

I still think the NCAA folds eventually, but regardless I think the NFL will create a minor league system to develop players on their own and how they want them to develop.Comment

I agree that the current set up will dissolve but it will be a cold day in hell when collegiate sports is wiped off the map in favor of developmental leagues for the NFL and NBA.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
The NCAA as an institution might fold but there WILL be a new system in place. Collegiate sports makes way too much money right now for it to just collapse. I'm talking about both football and basketball. The revenue generated from those two sports helps to fund university programs and Title XI initiatives.

The Power 5 schools might keep competing, but I think they're going to have to operate outside of the parameters of public or university funding. They just cost too much and not enough of what the programs earn is going back to the university and not just the athletic department. So there might still be the Alabama Crimson Tide, but I think the connection to the university will be in name only. I just can't see this particular model as feasible for much longer.
