I don't even care what happens from this point out. I'm more than satisfied to have seen the reaction from the Seahawk fans (or lack thereof from the members talking crap before the game).

      Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I'm going to put this here because i'm not sure if it's worthy enough for a post on its own but due to the events of the Seattle/ATL game others and myself included wondered about the whole "icing the kicker" phenomenon. I did a quick search and in December of 2011 Grantland had something about it which included this bit of research:

he statistical evidence suggests that icing really has little to no effect on kickers. A study conducted by Tobias Moskowitz in the recently published book Scorecasting compared the success rates of iced kicks and non-iced kicks in key fourth-quarter situations after adjusting for the distance of the field goal. With nine years of field goals to study, Moskowitz found that when an opposing coach iced the kicker with 15 seconds or fewer left to go in the game, those kickers actually got more accurate:
      ICE, ICE, BABY
Time left on the clock All kicks Iced Not Iced
      1:59-1:01 76.2% 74.2% 77.6%
      1:00-0:31 75.5% 74.3% 74.6%
      0:30-0:16 76.5% 76.0% 76.9%
      0:15-0:00 76.4% 77.5% 75.4%

Despite the evidence, coaches will continue to ice the opposing kicker at the end of games because it's a play with no downside for them. If a team ices a kicker and that kicker hits the field goal, no one ever comes out to suggest that the team was wrong to ice the kicker. Heck, even if the kicker misses the first one and then hits the second kick, like Folk did against Whisenhunt, the coach rarely gets blamed. If the opposing coach ices the kicker and that kicker misses the ensuing field goal, though, he's lauded as some sort of coaching savant. It's nonsense. Garrett's timeout was unnecessary, but it didn't cause Bailey to miss the field goal. A bad kick caused Bailey to miss the field goal.

I don't really understand the whole icing idea anyway, why do you want to give the guy more time to prepare and gather himself? Let the FG team run out there after the previous play ends and try to get set up in time for the try. Especially if they have to hurry. Seems like they're more likely to miss if the whole procedure is rushed.

Agreed with all this but I'm starting get a little tired of Deion.

Trying to hard to be the NFL Network version of Barkley but sounds more like Screamin' A most of the time and that's not a good thing either.

Miami is attempting to get all it's professional (and to an extent college) teams on one page by having a similar look and feel. Think of how, for example, Pittsburgh has the Pirates, Steelers & Penguins all in one similar color pallet thus giving the city it's own identity. Miami is attempting to do the same here. The first step was with the new Marlins logo and now the Dolphins will follow suit using a similar art treatment (ie: art deco style, less cartoony, similar colors, etc).

Here's a treatment that was in consideration as well:

Like what elgreazy touched upon, I absolutely LOVE the idea of having an area's professional teams (across all sports) having a common thread (logo style & colors.) That dude's Pelicans logo is downright amazing. Only thing that could make it better is changing the green accents to the Saint's gold.

If they're going in that direction I wonder if Miami will look towards having a Black Jersey (like the Marlins) I prefer them not to, as every NFL team is starting to use some kind of Black jersey.. maybe they will have it as an alternate uni?

They'd be stupid to have a black jersey considering they play in Miami.

If that Dolphins mockup is the new logo than I don't see a problem with it but the fin is way too wide thus making it look more like a whale. The Dolphins uniform is one that doesn't really need any tinkering as it's an easily identifiable and iconic look.

I'd actually like to see the aqua emphasized more as it seems the Dolphins have tried everything to de-emphasize it in the last 5 years at least. Other than that I just hope they don't all crazy with some new fangled Nike template.
