He too badly wants to be some sort of social media influencer type to ever quit Twitter. Just one of his many self destructive traits.

Bungled Trent Williams situation gets worse in Washington, they've put him on the non-football injury list and will opt to not pay the balance of his salary this season. They are within their right to do so, but it's traditionally not how this plays out.

The Redskins have chosen not to pay the remaining $5.1 million of Trent Williams' salary after placing the offensive tackle on the non-football injury list Thursday.

If you're not familiar, his rift with the team involves a cancer diagnosis that the team refused to test for despite his repeated concerns:

The seven-time Pro Bowler doesn't believe Redskins doctors treated him with proper care when facing a serious health issue.

                  Interesting...

It’s a common refrain from NFL fans: If we lose our starting quarterback, we’re screwed.

But that isn’t the case, at all. In fact, NFL teams actually have a winning record this season when forced to go to a backup because of an injury to their starter.

So far this season, 35 games have been started by a backup quarterback. Teams are 20-15 in those games.

Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater led the way by going 5-0 in the games Drew Brees missed with a thumb injury. Panthers backup quarterback Kyle Allen has gone 5-1 so far filling in for the injured Cam Newton.

The Jaguars went 4-4 in games Gardner Minshew started, although they’re going back to Nick Foles now that he’s healthy again.

The Steelers have managed to go 3-2 with Mason Rudolph after Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season, and they even managed to go 1-0 with third-stringer Devlin Hodges when Rudolph missed a game.

The Broncos are 1-0 with Brandon Allen in place of the injured Joe Flacco, and the Chiefs went 1-1 with Matt Moore while Patrick Mahomes was out.

Even when teams lose with their backup, it’s not necessarily because the starting quarterback is out. Although they went 0-1 without Matt Ryan, the Falcons’ offense looked surprisingly effective when Matt Schaub started the week Ryan missed.

There have, of course, been some offenses that looked like garbage with their backups. That group of teams is led by the Jets, who went 0-2 with Luke Falk and 0-1 with Trevor Siemian. Also included in that category is Washington, which went 0-1 with both Dwayne Haskins and Colt McCoy, and Chicago, which went 0-1 with Chase Daniel. But those offenses all look bad with their starting quarterbacks, too.

Overall this season, the results of quarterback injuries have been surprising: Teams that lost good quarterbacks saw backups play well enough to win in their place. Most of the teams whose offenses struggled with their backup quarterbacks have offenses that struggle with their starters, too.

One of my favorite NFL experiences was going to a MNF Chargers-Niners game in SD. 75 degrees in December. Straight from happy hour to the game via the trolley and relatively cheap tickets. LA just isn't a good NFL city.

                          Re: NFL Off Topic

I still remember when Matt Flynn had that 6 TD game against the Lions when Rodgers sat the last game of the season. The weirdest of the weird fans wanted Flynn as the starting QB going into the playoffs, and after the season that one game performance got him a ridiculous backup contract with Seattle. One game where he committed two turnovers and perhaps played against Lions scrubs or whose defense wasn't ever good to begin with (and Stafford himself had 500+ yards and 5 TD's) guaranteed him $10 million. After that game, Flynn went on to have 8 TD/6 INT (3.7% TD percentage) in 216 pass attempts and 16 games played, 5 of which he started. Yeah, that was an overreaction for sure.

All this being said, sometimes they do show their due in the limelight. I want to put Cam in his place because of the snobbery he displays with his lack of performance. He may be getting out-QB'd right now. He's not the same Cam he was with regard to his running game and overall health, and Allen is showing something. This game against GB will be a massive litmus test, but if he is successful with a victory and good performance then I don't think the Panthers will look to justify holding onto Cam for another $19 million if they don't have to. I am not saying that Kyle Allen is a "best Cam Newton" substitute, but he is currently a more valuable one than the Newton I saw at the beginning of this season, and the team is prospering; they might as well roll with it for a while.

If anything, that article is just proving the NFL's shortsighted approach of "What have you done for me lately?" If the league continues on that trend, then the 20-15 record stands out and in fact matters more than the original starting QB's themselves. So yes, #QBsDontMatter indeed. [/devil's advocate]

To be fair, he was meant to be the starter when he signed that contract. Russell Wilson then forced their hand in training camp. But yeah, the amount of the contract was pretty ridiculous going off that small sample size.

                              You're right, I had misremembered.

At that time I was thinking maybe the Texas Rangers were going to sign him as a second baseman.

EDIT: Wait, I'm thinking of the Wilson holdout during the 2015 season, not his rookie season when he beat him out.

Honestly kinda amazing Pete Carroll (was allowed?) started a 3rd round rookie over a guy the team just signed to a pretty big free agent contract.
