Getting the CBA done quickly could really help the Steelers with cap space this offseason. The 30% rule will really hamper their ability to create space by restructuring if a CBA is not in place.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I like adding a team to the playoffs. I'd also like a rule where if you're .500 or worse as a division winner, you have to play the 5 seed on the road.
I don't like a 17-game season though. 16 provides a nice, even schedule with the way the divisions are set up. That's more perfect to me than the current playoff system.
I do wish playoff seeding was addressed in some form. Think that can be done at the competition committee level though, and not require CBA negotiation.
Owners have been summoned to NY for meetings Thursday and Friday, so things are close.Comment

I don't think most folks (not here on OS, but the general fan base) don't understand that 14 of the 16 are predetermined. Under the current setup, I could tell you today who the Broncos are playing in the year 2035 for 14 of their games. The other two are decided by where you finish in the standings.
With 17 games, there isn't a clean way to pick that last game and I fear the NFL would use that to arbitrarily pick matchups that benefit them for viewers rather than overall fairness.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think 17 is pretty easy to figure out. Currently you play 2 other teams that finished the same place as you in another division. Add a third division to that rotation for everyone and you have the 17th game.

Or, you could add a home/away with that team in the other division within your conference. I don't really like that either.
There are ways it could be done, I personally don't like them though.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Sherman said right before the SB(based on his twitter when he was going back and forth with that idiot Florio)that support for a 17th game wasn’t that great like fans thought, even with the possibility of more money. I’m curious to know what changed between them and now?
As for the playoff format, I don’t like it. Why don’t leagues like leaving things great like they are? Like there was nothing wrong with it at all and that the includes the Division Winner getting an automatic home game in the playoffs.
At this point, I have about 10 more years of enjoying watching Sports and then I’m out. All these leagues tinkering with **** just for the sake of it. NBA with its nonsense about mid season tournaments, Baseball and it’s possible new playoff format and now this.#RespectTheCultureComment

The NFL isn't happy with just making money. They have to continue to increase profits. They are running it like a company instead of a sports league.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I hate it, but it was inevitable once they floated the idea a few years back. More revenue is always going to win out.
Once we get seven teams per conference in the playoffs, I imagine it won't be too much longer until they push for eight. Ditto an 18-game schedule, which I'd actually prefer over 17 - assuming there's two bye weeks.
I wish they'd just leave it like it is. Another reason for me to stick with Madden 20, I guess.Comment

Biggest winner is Bill O'Brien. Now we're never getting rid of this guy with an extra playoff spot in the fold.Comment

I have no problem with the changes. Hey the Jets might finally make the playoffs again..lol.
The players will get a larger share of the revenue. Fans will get more games. Getting that bye will matter even more now so maybe we’ll see less teams sitting starters the last week of the season.
The only downside I see (and this is a huge one) is that there will probably be more injuries sadly.
Sorry for the late reply.
I thought it was great. Really touched on the vitriol Vick faced because of the dog fighting. Plus it showed a good comeback story. Highly recommended.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I was young when it was first going down but surprisingly enough I remembered it pretty much as it happened. I would read a book on it, my only issue was I felt like they implied that the state attorney was going to let Vick off because dogfighting is just in Virginia’s blood or something and I don’t know enough about his process to know if that’s true or not but it just doesn’t seem realistic.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: NFL Off Topic
I am not adverse to change (still love the new xp rule). But I hate the change to the playoff format. If they MUST add more playoff games, I think I would rather they make it an even 8, but add an additional WC round. So 5-8 play in the first week. Winners play 3 & 4 the next week. Top two seeds get TWO weeks off.
I don't like it either, but I prefer it to the current proposal.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Ruining the best postseason format in sports.
7/16 teams make the postseason in each conference.
The regular season becomes as meaningless as the NBA and MLB regular seasons.
Man, somehow the nfl just gets worse and worse.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment
