I'm a big fan of people reclaiming themselves.

I'm a bigger fan of calling a spade a spade.

I don't care what he deals with on a personal level. You have that much ability, you get over it. And if you can't---sure, fine. I've dealt with a whole helluva lot of **** in my life. More than anyone should ever have to. But don't expect pity or infinite chances. You have to be held accountable for what you do in this life. There's an emerging and prevailing attitude in our society these days that you should get all of the glory if you make it but none of the blame if you don't. That's killer. That's unacceptable.

Right. They take it so personally. You'd think they had to write his checks.

He has been held accountable. He's been unemployed for 2 years and is not even guaranteed a roster spot.

Also, I haven't read anywhere about someone saying his failures weren't his fault.

I meant accountable from NFL teams who say "Dude, you're done. Go home. Do something else. You're garbage and a waste."

Hey, we'll see what happens when he flames out for the 18th time. Let's see if he can prove me wrong.

So is there a reason why you are rooting against his success now? You dont think hes taken enough blame for his actions. I dont get what you are trying to say. Hes been held accountable, hes been out of his job for 3 years, and has no guarantee of getting a job back. But hes working. Should he just crawl into a little ball and die now because he ****ed up before? You make it sound like he killed someone. On one hand you say you understand going through personal stuff, then on the next hand you crucify him for going through personal stuff. The hyperbole is out of control.

                Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I just think that when it comes to professional sports, if you keep blowing chances, you shouldn't get any more of them. There comes a time to be realistic, you know? I get angry when players waste their ability, because there are millions of people who would kill to have that skill and make the money these guys do who don't. To see it wasted just pisses me off from a "Man, you had EVERYTHING. C'mon dude." standpoint. Same thing with Michael Vick.

No more, no less. Like I said, hey, if he proves me wrong then that's good for him. Let's see what happens.

And I find it funny that you call me out for hyperbole being out of control when you said things like "who knew Russell committed a crime against humanity?", "should he just curl up and die?" and "you make it sound like he killed someone", considering that's way more hyperbolic than what I've said.

Saw this the other day (almost hour long) but it kinda shows how Jay Cutler really is off the field.

Bottom line is, it's not a merit system in pro sports. If you can play, you'll get a chance to do so, no matter how many times you've screwed up in the past. That is, if you can prove you learn from your mistakes and aren't going to make them again.

I'm not going to root against a guy if they show the willingness to want to change. None of us is perfect, so that whole thing about stones and glass houses probably applies here.

That much is true. There's always going to be the team that falls in love with what could have been and take a chance.

How about rooting against Russell because he already had a shot at the pros and chose to squander it? How about rooting against Russell because if he gets a spot on some team's training camp roster that would mean someone else (who presumably hasn't already been paid $30 million +) won't get a shot?

He's not going to get a shot unless he proves he can play. It he proves genius better than player #54, damn right he should get the chance again.

He's not going to get handed a shot again because of his name. His name is **** now. He'll only get a chance if he can play so the whole "He's taking a spot from someone else" card is BS. If he proves it, he proves it. No reason to root again him because he might warrant a spot over someone else.

Really, though, we're supposed to root against people who are trying to get another shot at their dream? He ****ed up once and has taken all of the blame for that. Everyone knows he was lazy and squandered away talent. But why are we rooting against him because he wants to try again and put in the work to earn a roster spot?

This "he already had his chance" rhetoric is so bull****. Imagine if that thinking was applied to everything? lmao we'd all be ****ed.

Bottom line, this is a country(and to a lesser extent, a sport)that gives out 2nd chances and people love and soak up the whole comeback story like a Sponge. Unless you're name is Michael Vick, in which damn near most people didn't want to see him back in the League because he ****ed up.

I guess I'll ask...why does anyone care if someone doesn't want him to succeed (or vice versa)? Honestly, none of us are in a position to influence whether he does or not...if some of us pull for him and others don't who's to say one side is right or not?
