Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
They don't want to play in the game, but they do want the trip. The money for the game also easily covers their family/teammates. Otherwise it would be in Miami.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Per ProFootballTalk:
Baltimore’s Joe Flacco is the top quarterback in the NFL with an expiring contract. Flacco is working from a position of strength after compiling a 15:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio over the Ravens’ final seven games leading up to the Super Bowl.
And he’s looking to get paid.
John Clayton stated on ESPN’s SportsCenter Special Monday that Flacco will likely target Drew Brees money in contract talks with the Ravens. Brees, of course, signed a five-year, $100 million contract with $40 million guaranteed last July.
“He’s now made a case for $20 million a year,” Clayton said. “And I think he’s gonna try to hold to that. Last season what I was hearing was he was asking for about $17 million. … But he was saying ‘okay fine, let me play this out.’ Now he’s in a position to make big money. And we’ll see if he can get over Drew Brees’ contract. I think he can.”
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen agreed that the “$20 million figure is not unreachable” for Flacco.#RespectTheCultureComment

Trust me. Having lived there for 4 years, there isn't that much to do on Oahu, and if you've been once you've pretty much done it all. Many of the player that I talked to that did USO events during the week said as much.Moderator

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Yeah... we're looking forward to going back to Hawaii for our 3rd trip (a week on the big island [proposed], a week in Oahu [honeymoon]... want to go back to the big island), but at this point Champ Bailey is probably watching Deadliest Catch marathons in his hotel room after his 12th visit. It's like Vegas, I've lived here all my life and the best I can muster is 'its a nice place to visit' outside of people who like to go clubbing or something
Anyways, Congress threatening to get involved in the HGH debate, had admonished the NFLPA for apparent feet-dragging. Has asked for it's latest proposal and communications with the NFL and may call players to testify before a committee.

Flacco $20 million per year? That says the NFL is over paying QBs. It also shows that teams are desperate for QBs. He can be a $20 million QB, but he still hasn't proved to be consistent enough. If he has a good game in the superbowl, then give him a $10-15 year deal with incentives that takes it to $20.
$20 million is way too much for a QB that at any moment can have mental and accuracy issues.Comment

The NFL has no current players and startlingly few ex-players who are known to be gay, but it appears ex-49ers and Raiders offensive tackle Kwame Harris, a former first-round pick, has involuntarily been added to the list as a result of the legal fallout from a fight at a restaurant.
According to the San Mateo Daily Journal, a dispute over soy sauce at Su Hong restaurant in Menlo Park, Calif. last Aug. 21, has landed the former NFL player in court after he assaulted his ex-boyfriend.
Chief deputy district attorney Karen Guidotti told the paper that Harris and the alleged victim had been in a romantic relationship but were not involved at the time of the incident. Harris’ attorney Alin Cintean confirmed to the paper the two "were previously involved" but were just friends when the incident occurred.
Harris pleaded not guilty to felony charges of domestic violence causing great bodily injury and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, the Daily Journal said. The dispute started when Harris got upset at his friend, Dimitri Geier, for pouring soy sauce on a plate of rice.
According to the paper, which was citing a suit filed in San Mateo County Superior Court, the two argued for seven minutes after the soy sauce was poured, and Harris said he wasn't going to take Geier to the airport as he had said he would. When the two went to get Geier's belongings from Harris' car, Harris accused Geier of stealing his underwear and tried pulling the man's pants down.
Geier tried unsuccessfully to get away, and Harris shook Geier and punched his arms, the paper said. Harris is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds and Geier is 6-1, 220 pounds. The paper said Geier allegedly struck Harris three times in the face, and then Harris punched Geier several times in the face.
Geier was taken to an emergency room, and had surgery to repair broken orbital bones and required a metal plate to fix the damage, the paper said. The Daily Journal said Geier has filed a civil suit against Harris for assault, battery, false imprisonment, negligence and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Harris could also face up to seven years in prison if convicted, Guidotti told the paper.
Harris played at Stanford and was a first-round pick of the 49ers in 2003. He played in 86 NFL games, starting 55, including 11 games during his lone season with the Raiders in 2008. That was the last time he played in the NFL.
Harris' lawyer told the paper his client was acting in self-defense and that Geier is just trying to get money through the civil suit.
“We’re looking forward to having this proven in court and clearing his name,” Cintean said.MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Going back to the Pro-Bowl discussion I was thinking about this for a while what you guys think of this idea.
Eliminate the actual game, but instead change it to a Week long End of Football season festivity in Hawaii, they could have Numerous Skills competitions through out the week. QB Accuracy drill, Deep ball shot-put event, CBs, WR's could have 1-1 matchups and just go for ridiculous catches/Ints, fastest man competition etc... There could be a Hall of Fame game with old timers at one point. They could have a Pro's vs. Joe's game on the Beach where NFL players play a flag football game against everyday fans in the stands or something. Split up the teams so there are fans and NFL players on both teams evenly.
Honestly the possibilities are endless something cool and exciting every day and it could be a ton of fun, and then at the end of the week cap it off with the NFL award ceremony where they give out the awards for MVP, Rookies of the Year, Comeback player etc.... That way the tradition can of the "Pro-Bowl" can still live on, and it can still be a big event in Hawaii.. but the doldrums, and hassle of going through the motions of the actual game can come to an end.Minnesota Vikings

Not gonna happen with the fans, EVER and if you can't see why you're blind. Beach football would make less players want to go as the chances of wrecking your legs are that much higher.
The pro bowl won't change, not are there any viable changes to make to it.badComment
