I guess this is the logical step after you neuter defenses via rule changes. Have to throw them a bone to make it look fair.

Re: NFL Off Topic
The change I most want to see with OT is for the referee's NOT to explain the OT rules every time. The players are professionals and should know the rules. And the broadcast team has plenty of time to explain it to the 17 people out there that don't know.
As for the latest rule change, I don't mind the current set up. I would prefer to remove the coin and give choice to the home team instead, but whatever. But not sure the latest change necessarily will remove the debate if KC scores, then Buffalo Scores, then KC scores again to win. In that scenario, it is still the coin that determined which team got an extra possession. If the HOME team gets the choice in this case, any objections can be met with "Don't lose to Jacksonville next time, and you'll have Home Field".Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I say just bring back the XFL scramble for the football, but with a twist. Cover the football in butter and have the two biggest guys on the team fight for it.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Yeah that's what makes the rule a bad one IMO. The team who gets the ball first cannot win the game outright, but they can lose it outright. Therefore there's only upsides to kicking off to open OT. The only reason not to kick would be to grab the wind advantage.Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I like the no coin toss idea and giving the home team the ball whenever they want (first or second). If it is still tied after 2 possessions, next score wins. Seems good to me.
But I look at this all differently than pretty much everyone. If it were up to me:
In the regular season, if a game is tied after 60 minutes of play, that game is a tie. There is no overtime. Neither team proved they were a winner given the time frame. Too bad so sad, let's move on with the rest of the day.
In the playoffs since you must have a winner, you get whatever overtime rules everyone agrees on. Talk about fairness and such? Be better during the 60 minutes and you don't get the randomness of whatever OT rules everyone has agreed to.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Smh...
Two big announcements from the NFL...both about as appealing as a turd in a punch bowl.
Gotta give 'em credit...takes a lot of...I'm not sure what...to believe either of these announcements was worth it.
New OT rules miss the mark, and add little to nothing of quality.
And mandating hires...if an idea (or candidate) is worthwhile, it won't need to be made mandatory.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Yeah this is a pet peeve of mine. Broadcast team can handle informing viewers and coaches should be handling the players. Don't need a rules explainer during a coin flip.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm looking forward to the first time both teams score 7 on their first possession in OT and then the first team goes down to kick a FG to win.
We didn't get to touch it an equal amount of times!!!!!!!!!! WTF, it's still decided by the coin toss!!Last edited by kehlis; 03-29-2022, 07:13 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Why the **** don't they just play an extra set of time and whoever is up at the end....wins?
And instead of doing that, they are just inviting a whole host of other dumb situations that they'll inevitably be upset about.
These people are morons and NFL fans, teams and media and whoever else are morons for not demanding such a simple fix.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 03-30-2022, 01:30 AM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I’ve said just play a ten minute OT period. If it’s still tied, then go to a sudden death kicker shootout.
