Re: NFL Off Topic
One thing I will say, I'm actually HAPPY it played out like it did. The rule says they could've given him a 15 yard penalty OR could've given Jones the td. If Jones had gotten a td on that play this discussion would be so much worse, and I would have to understand SteelersFreak being pissed.
Like I said, I think without Tomlin interfering Jones gets to the 35 MAYBE the 30. I think it's a bit unrealistic to say he would've scored a touchdown and gotten much further than the 30. Tomlin should be fined six figures and suspended for a game or two. Penalizing the entire team for the actions of one person for something that wasn't premeditated beforehand (like Spygate) seems pretty silly.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

I think it would be understandable for Steelers fans to be upset if he had've been awarded a touchdown considering he was caught at the 40 yard line and Allen had been catching up to him for a few seconds.

I agree that the % of him scoring wasn't high enough to be awarded the TD in that situation, but I do think that's what would have happened if the ref threw the flag.
As for the penalty, I think it's very different if that's a water boy, player or assistant coach. The fact it was the head coach makes it okay to me that the entire team is penalized in some way. Wouldn't be mad if it were just Tomlin, but don't see anything wrong with it being more than just him.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I don't know what you're arguing though... maybe your not with me and just still speaking of what other people are saying. If we're just focusing on whether or not he would've scored you honestly have no idea. Jacoby steps out of a diving play at his ankles, spins out of a grab of his shoulder, makes a move to throw Allen off. He definitely had a chance at tackling him but it wasn't 100% and the percentage did increase when Jones slowed his stride. That's really all that matters.

Apparently the guy who died broke into a car and then collapsed during the struggle that ensued when the car's owner showed up.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
My stance on all these cases is that if you leave yourself open for punishment it is whatever they say. But I can see being upset if it's a draft pick. I couldn't see being upset if the team was fined 6 figures along with Tomlin (another rumor that's been floating around).Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
They should just call it what is: the last chance play. One play doesn't make or break the game. Simply because its the end of a close game doesn't mean the only play that is "make or break" is the last set of downs inside of 2 minutes. I always thought that was funny and over-simplifying the game. Plus, its an easy out for the mistakes made during the rest of the game while that "one play" gets put under the microscope and is analyzed to death.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Statement from the NFL: http://tmi.me/1cL16I
"With 2:00 remaining in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s game between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins, Washington faced a second-and-5 from its own 41-yard line with no timeouts remaining. Quarterback Robert Griffin III completed a pass to wide receiver Pierre Garcon for four yards. The ball was correctly spotted shy of the Washington 46, bringing up third down. "Referee Jeff Triplette signaled third down but the head linesman – with Washington in a “hurry-up” situation – incorrectly motioned for the chain crew to advance the chains, which caused the down boxes to read first down. "Following a Washington incomplete pass, the chains were moved back and the down boxes correctly reset to fourth down. "In this situation where there is obvious confusion as to the status of the down, play should have been stopped prior to third down and the correct down communicated to both clubs. This should have occurred regardless of the fact that Washington had no timeouts and it was inside two minutes. "Only the referee can rule and signal a first down. The official nearest to the down markers and chain crew, the head linesman, must wait for the first down signal from the referee before moving the chains. "Instant Replay did not become involved in this situation because the replay official determined that the ball on Garcon’s catch was correctly spotted short of the line to gain for a first down."Comment
