Re: NFL Off Topic
See the latest sports news on the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, A's, Sacramento Kings and San Jose Sharks.
The overturning of the fine isn't much publicized. Only the big hits that cause serious injuries are the ones that continue to get a lot of play in the media.
If the fine isn't valid, was the penalty valid? 49ers might be tied for the NFC West lead if there wasn't a flag.Comment

They are also playing to keep 3rd. If they lose and Indy wins, they fall to 4th. Although the Chiefs seem to be so back-and-forth, I'd much rather play the Chargers, Dolphins, possibly the Ravens again depending on how today goes, than the Chiefs in the first round.Comment

Brook won an appeal of the fine for the hit:

As for the flag, in real time no doubt I'd throw the flag. It was a devastating hit and it was close enough to the head that it was an easy mistake to make. Only after replay can we tell that he didn't contact the head. I thought they outlawed clothes lining players a long time ago, but maybe I'm wrong.
It basically just comes back to the fact that certain penalties should be reviewable. Actually all should be... Never know what that deciding play will be and what blown call could happen on it. I'd hate for a game to end on a bad holding call, and to be told oh this one isn't reviewable.
I'd rather have everything be an option and slow the game down. I never understood that angle, by the way. Get it right, it's worth the extra 5 minutes. And those are prime moments too. It's exciting getting a slow-mo replay and deciding if the call was correct or not.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: NFL Off Topic
No thanks to all penalties being up for review. I'm all for getting things right but the games are already long enough as it is. I'm sure it wouldn't add too much time in the beginning of the halves, but I'd feel like it slow things down incredibly if there are flags in the final 2 minutesSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
You have to get the call right. With how much the league talks about the integrity of the game, getting it right should be a bigger priority. I don't really care how long the games are. Reviews should be streamlined if they affect the time that much.Last edited by kingkilla56; 12-29-2013, 12:25 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The reason judgement calls are not reviewable is that initially, instant replay had some resistance from some owners.
As time has gone by, that resistance has softened, because some crucial plays have been reversed over the years. So they've expanded it to automatically include the end of halves, all scoring plays and turnovers.
There's no time limit on the reviewed plays either, so game lengths have increased, in addition to the fact that more plays are being reviewed now than when they first put in replay reviews.
So the argument that it would make the game too long is weak.
Not only that, games used to be longer until they sped it up by making the clock run even after an out of bounds play, until the last 5 minutes. Also some other measures to speed it up.
If they really cared about the length of games, they'd cut out some commercial time outs, especially after every punt and kick return. But we know that's not going to happen.
There is really no excuse for not trying to get the call right. If length of game is all that they have to hang their hat on, you know the people who are arguing for letting bad calls stand don't have much.Comment

My top 3 picks in the draft will be:
1: Texans: QB Bridgewater if he declares
2: Rams: Offensive Lineman Jake Matthews or Cyrus Kouandjio especially with the nasty Oline injuries they had. I like Mathews better and I dont see the Rams giving up on Bradford yet.
3: Jaguars: QB Derek Carr or Johnny FootballPS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: NFL Off Topic
We all know about the new runningback rule where runners aren't allowed to lower heads , but have any of you actually seen this rule enforced? I haven't

As far as I know, Lacy hasn't been called for it, and he lowers his head damn near every run he has.Comment

4: Oakland: Not sure what they would get. I mean its a hard area to pick in this draft but I would throw Clowney here for the simple fact his talent alone wont allow him to drop below pick 5 so I would expect them to grab him.
5: Browns: Johnny Football if he is available. I have seen at least 1 tweet from the brown salivating over him. I would be surprised if he falls below the browns.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: NFL Off Topic
I brought this up a few weeks ago. I've seen lots of HBs lowering their heads into tackles outside of that 3 yard box, but have yet to see a flag. I wonder if the NFL did away with the rule and just didn't announce it or something.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Ive seen many running backs lower their heads. Not one single flag. I don't they did away with it. They aren't consistent with any of thisComment
