I dont know, I can only see Rex Ryan as a DC!! Nothing more. He's got the Charisma but he is to the Jets the same as Garett is to Dallas. The teams are not getting better. Sure, the players play for there coach but isnt it the coach and GM who draft and sign the players? If he players are not meeting expectations, then who's to blame? You can only point the finger at the players for so long

Rex has gone to 2 AFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez as QB, Garrett continues to miss the playoffs with Tony Romo.

And they went 8-8 in a transitional year when most people predicted them to win about 4 games and compete for the #1 pick. Don't see how that's not meeting expectations or getting better.

Here is food for thought guys..

Im sitting here at work and everyone in the area are Texan fans. Im from PA and a Penn St fan to the max. With Bill O Brien interviewing for the Texans job, some oe my co workers question his credibility. For example, ESPN reported he is already negotiating a contract with Houston. However, he has come out and denied it. He has also told recruits this past week is going nowhere and staying in "Happy Valley". He also told everyone at the football banquet he would see them next year. This raised the question that if he would turn his back on Penn st and the recruits hes pulling in, would it effect the Texans? Your a player for the texans and you see this, during his conference to accept job he throws arround commitment and family and team..Would this make a player question "didnt he say that at Penn St to a bunch of young players"? I know lots of coaches have pulled this card in college when leaving for greener grass but would it effect pro players?

This is what happens in big time football everywhere. O'Brien is telling recruits and PSU he will be there, because what if negotiations with Houston fall through?

Would it affect pro players? No. Why, every Monday they get game checks regardless of who the coach is. If O'Brien comes in installs and implements a system that sees them win game and chanpionships they won't give a crap what he did to or at PSU, hell some won't care even if they lose games. That is the nature of professional sports and players making generational money these days.

Rex is one of the better coaches in the league. Glad the Jets kept things in perspective and brought him back. I only worry that bringing him back may mean Geno Smith is a lock to be their starter next year. I dont think that should be an automatic at this point.

I've been one of those anti Rex Ryan people but you know what? The man put most of his silliness aside and became a more humble and hard working coach. He still has his moments but I think he's at the very least one of the better defensive minds in the game.

I'm not sure what to make of the Jets offensively but Ryan has somehow made teams with Mark Sanchez and now Geno Smith somewhat competitive. That's something worth giving credit for. Ryan definitely deserved to keep his job.

As jmillhimes said it was more Jimmy Johnson winning back then. Jerry had some say in personnel but not to the extent he has today. If you look at that Cowboys roster especially defensively a lot of the guys that made that team work were guys from tiny schools you never heard of. The Cowboys used to be great at finding diamonds in the rough.

To be absolutely clear on this: Jones had zero say regarding personnel during Jimmy Johnson's tenure in Dallas. Johnson demanded and received total control of the football side of the operation, while Jerry had control over all business matters. It wasn't until Jerry and Jimmy parted ways that Jones got to unleash his inner football man.

Johnson demanded and received total control of the football side of the operation, while Jerry had control over all business matters. Thanks for the clarification. I had thought that Jones may have a small hand in things as I remember Johnson discussing the Herschel Walker trade on Fox Football Daily and explaining how he went to Jones to telling him about the impending trade and whatnot.

Ehh, recalcs in football always happen days after the games, this is nothing new if you have ever played fantasy football, and won or lost a game based on a Wednesday recalc.

I pretty genuinely don't care about Aaron Rodgers' (or anybody's, really) sexual orientation and I anxiously await the day when even if someone of his stature is gay it isn't a story.

Well to get to that point a superstar athlete needs to come out. We could have all the Jason Collins of the world come out but nobody will care much. When a face of a franchise comes out the environment in locker rooms definitely could change for the good. I think it something like this could be a huge story.

Eh, there were rumors that Ryan Braun was gay, too, but he just married his wife about a month ago or so, so, not every internet rumor is true or has legs to stand on without cold hard facts. Supposedly, I've read some of this is coming from Perez Hilton. Didn't she already have her 15 minutes of fame?

Plus, on top of that, I agree with Dayman and consider it none of my business how anyone leads their life.

It's there choice whether they announce it or not and how anyone else feels won't sway their decision one way or the other.
