    Blegh.

Kluwe got replaced because he wasn't good enough. Simple as that. If he was good enough to keep his job, he would have kept his job. Simple as that.

A punter on the downside of his career that gets beat out in camp by a player who missed his rookie year due to injury with the Raiders.

If given the option between an outspoken Chris Kluwe and a silent Chris Kluwe, an NFL team would take a silent Chris Kluwe every single day of the week. May it have contributed to him being released? Maybe. Was it why he was released? Color me skeptical.

Just another one of Kluwe's valiant efforts though. Dude hasn't met a fight he doesn't like.

These Pro Personnel People have also proven that they don't necessarily make smart decisions all of the time so that's not saying much either. Again, nobody is taking issue with him taking the money.

Let's just say I would not be surprised to not see him on anybody's roster on Opening Day next season.

        I think that's incorrect.

I think if Kluwe was a silent, fly on the wall type guy, he'd still be punting for the Vikings. Like you said, NFL teams will take a silent guy over an activist type person every day of the week. If Kluwe was an elite punter, he might still be with the Vikings. But he was just a decent punter, which means he is very easily replaced.

But, he made his own bed with this situation. Seems that he would have to stop speaking out about issues he cares about, and he doesn't want to do that. Which is an admirable thing, in my mind. I'm sure he was smart with his money, so he doesn't really need the paycheck at this point.

But, the main point of the article was not about Kluwe complaining, it was about exposing Priefer (who was [is?] considered an internal candidate for the HC position) for what he really is. I certainly hope Priefer never finds his way to a head coaching position in the NFL...

He is still a smart guy, who has seen a lot and knows a lot. Still get guys in the right place. Yes he isn't physically the same but if teams deem he still has value and can play, why should fans be calling for his retirement particularly those fan of teams he's not on?

I have no reason to not want Reed to play since he's one of my favorite players, regardless of if he's not on my team.

But I also have no interest in watching a washed up version of Reed(especially on a non contending team), which is what we've been doing for the last year and a half.

I loved watching Ed Reed run up and down the field. He was picking off passes and in the window all the time.....That was of course 4 years ago. Reed's tackling has gone down over the past 3 years, he was beaten deep on 5 plays last year that I can remember. It use to be a guy who struck fear into Qb's around the league...Now, everyone is throwing right at him. personally, I dont hate the guy other then his time down in Houston showed he was more about himself instead of the team. If somone else picks him up..More power to them. My only hope is he goes to an NFC East team other then Philly. Foles could use some more 300+ games

I just scanned through the article (will fully read it later) and yeah, without going into specifics this seems pretty disappointing. Priefer sounds like a douchebag and if anything this article may make the Vikes think twice about hiring him as head coach if he's indeed a serious internal candidate.

I think there's a ton of validity to what Kluwe said, however, one commenter did make a fair point; it looks very similar to any situation where an older, more expensive player is replaced by a younger, cheaper player at nearly identical productivity.

I don't doubt there's truth to what Kluwe says though.

So does the lack of ticket sales for the playoff games grab the attention of the NFL and/or teams? Prices can go only so high before they really alienate the fan base from wanting to see the game in person and potentially impact the away team's coordination via crowd noise.

I think the Broncos see this issue as well but not in the attendance stat. The ticket prices keep out those who want to be vocally involved in the game and the wine and cheese crowd come to have dinner while at the game

NFL games just cost too much to go to. I could go to a Nationals game with a friend and sit in the luxury section behind home plate for the price of just me attending one Redskins game in decent seats. I prefer to watch NFL games on TV.

Yep, paid $600 for two tickets behind home plate to watch Strasburg pitch against the Brewers. Got free foot and drink with it. Didn't have to worry about some drunk yelling "**** you, **** them,**** this" and then trying to fight everyone. That experience is 1000x better than sitting club level at a Redskins game. (Not that I wasn't at the Dallas game this year also.)

Scrap the extra point. 2 point conversion try from the 3 yard line and 3 point try from the 7. I've said that privately for a few years now.

NFL wants the wine and cheese crowd though. That's who's paying 5 or even 6-figure sums for PSLs for new stadiums and what is it, $40 pizzas at the Cowboys' stadium?

I think even the more diehard fans will think twice about spending hundreds to see a playoffs game in 0 degree weather with negative wind chill factor.

In new stadiums, NFL teams are installing expensive Wifi systems because they know the fans are looking at things like twitter, their fantasy football stats, etc.

It may be the most popular sport but it's targeting affluent fans, which are more limited in number. If teams start regularly blacking out local broadcasts, that will hurt the popularity even more.
