If they do it right, it won't be that bad.

I think keeping the kickers involved is good. Make them kick it from the 20, making it about a 35-40 yard FG. Makes it relatively successful but with enough room to make you sweat.

I can already hear the cries of games coming down to kickers as we've already heard. They always did though, it's just more difficult.

Could add a lot of roster issues. Keep the old guy whose accurate, or go with the big leg? Keep both and use that extra roster spot?

Don't make it easy for these guys!

Sheer idiocy. Why should the fact that the xp is almost automatic in the NFL be considered a problem?

The scoring rules in football are essentially perfect right now; a td + xp is worth more than two fgs, which is how it should be. "If it ain't broke..."

I'm all for making the PAT harder than it is now. I don't mind if games come down to kickers, they already do on occasion anyways. Let alone the time it takes up(granted, it's like 30 seconds a kick.) would be nice to kick down.

The one thing I wish the NFL would get rid of is the stupid commercials and how they are placed. *kick PAT* Commercial *Kickoff* Commercial *Start of Drive. The middle section for the kickoff-commercial-start is a real annoyance more than anything. Oh well, it won't go away because of money.

              Re: NFL Off Topic

              Per PFT.com:

With the NFL making a clear commitment to the preseason HBO series Hard Knocks, the league needs to be sure that a constant flow of participating teams will be available.

Last year, the league decided to reserve the right to force an unwilling team to accept the assignment.

But the “thou shalt” possibility comes with some caveats. Teams that have made the playoffs in the last two years, teams with new coaches, and teams that have been on Hard Knocks within the last decade are exempt.

Via Barry Petchesky of Deadspin, that leaves the powers-that-be with the power to compel only one of eight teams in 2014: the Bears, Bills, Cardinals, Giants, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, and Steelers.

Arizona coach Bruce Arians already has said he would fight “tooth and nail” an involuntary assignment to do Hard Knocks. But it may not come to that, for the Cardinals or any of the other seven teams.

The 24 exempt teams can still choose to do the show, and typically there’s a franchise that craves the national exposure that comes from being on Hard Knocks. Some also believe that the experience helps players deal with distractions.

The most intriguing possible team at this point is the Vikings, whose new head coach has very recent experience with Hard Knocks; Mike Zimmer served as defensive coordinator of the 2013 Bengals.

Either way, someone will do it, whether they want to or not. It’s highly unlikely that the team that gets the gig will being doing so against its will.

Of course, that would only make the ultimate reality show’s official reality show even more compelling.

Instead of getting rid of PAT's, I'd like to see them narrow the goal posts. FG's have become darn near automatic…just narrowing the goal posts could make it challenging again and lower FG%'s across the board.

Heck, if they had a way of making them really narrow for an XP and wider for a FG that'd be cool with me...

Lol, that reminds me of the pennants from NCAA Football 2003, I think, where you could shrink the goal posts for the opposing teams. I doubt it would happen, but it would pretty cool to see.

Here's an idea to rid of the going over the posts. Make the goal a square, so that you can't go over the posts and still score.

They could also put the hashmarks back to where they used to be, (which is where the NCAA has them now) to increase the "degree of difficulty" on FGs, due to increased angle, which would create a need for power AND accuracy...

It would also influence playcalls, due to setting up at more extreme parts of the field...

As far as the XP goes:

Why not just make the team line up for the kick on the 30, so the kick is a 47 yarder?

Less "automatic" makes and also creates a "weather factor", which MANY games has this year...

You'd really have to think about trying a 47 yard kick for one point on a windy and / or snowy day...

That's definitely one of the main possibilities that's been discussed, and I think it's a pretty reasonable idea.

In essence, it'd just be saying that PATs are so automatic that you're gonna be awarded them regardless.

I actually like the one Goodell floated out about awarding 7 points for TD's if a 2-pt conversion isn't attempted. If a 2pt conversion fails then you only get 6 points.
