Why would you run a play that could result in a turnover verses taking a kneel when you know you could run the clock out?

    That's a poor comparison.
    It really isn't.

Is there a rule in the NFL rulebook mandating teams to take knees with under 2:00 minutes left so that they can win?

No, it came about as a strategic choice by coaches after the Miracle in the Meadowlands debacle.

No, it comes as a strategical decision.

      No?

          Cute.

I just used this particular situation as an example of how whenever the NFL proposes doing anything, people lose their minds and act like it's the end of football as we know it.

I don't see the argument FOR the extra point here, other than "that's how it's always been", which becomes the argument for every NFL related issue and is itself a horrible argument.

Things evolve sometimes. The goal posts used to be on the goalline, there was no two point conversion, missed field goals used to be placed at the 20 yard line instead of the line of scrimmage. All of these changes, I have no doubt, would've been vehemently opposed by the public if they had the internet as a voice back then under the "it's fine as it is!" clause.

I think you are being a little overdramatic with this post and your last post where you were a bit condescending.

It's okay if people are hesitant to have it removed nor does it mean people are afraid of change.

It's okay to have a different opinion and it doesn't mean anything like you are making it out to mean. We can all have different opinions and it's okay.

We don't need you to say things like "cute" and "that's adorable". That's a little unnecessary.

The odds of a missed PAT are .9%. Obviously a minuscule number.

The snap and the hold is a very underrated part of the PAT. Teams practice this tirelessly for both extra points and field goals.

If your opinion is that they should just go away then that's fine.

But there is no need to belittle those who disagree with that opinion.

If they get rid of the PAT then when else am I going to waste 5-10 minutes using the bathroom and getting food?

I would like to see something done to make it matter a little bit more. I don't think it needs to be taken out completely, but its basically just padding scores even if its by 1 point intervals.

I haven't watched this play in a while, and even as someone who doesn't like the Cowboys, it's pretty damn hard to watch. I think even more so now just because of how much this one play and one mistake has defined Romo for the rest of his career.

I am having a hard time thinking of positives to keeping it as it is.

Hard for me to watch as well. Makes me really miss Michaels and Madden as a commentary team....

I completely agree. The irony is that sports evolve, and if you want to maintain the original intent of the game, you have to adjust rules as you go. The kicking game is a prime example. I am too lazy to look up what extra point percentages were 70 years ago, but I am pretty sure the kicking game wasn't the science that it is today. I believe the problem is solved merely by changing the difficulty (either width of goalposts or distance) to something that has a 90% (or whatever) difficulty. That would make it relevant...and in some late game situations, more exciting.

While a lot of people hate change, I think the constant rule adjustments are one reason the NFL is the top rated sport in the country. By contrast, Basesball is very resistant to change. Baseball games used to be much shorter before the days of TV breaks, 8+ pitching changes per game, batters stepping out of the box each pitch for whole routine etc. Baseball never adjusted to the evolution, many games are now 4+ hours, and it is no longer the most popular sport in this country.
