Well clearly it's not their job, my issue is the inconsistency in flags and it's not strictly for holds in the secondary either. I'll give them credit, they got the right personnel to do it and they make it work.

Steelers today announced they are discussing using variable pricing for both regular season games and preseason games.

I don't know if other teams do it or how much it would really change but to me that would be a good step.

I'm assuming it's the same for every team, but with my Seahawks season tickets, I have to pay full price for the preseason tickets as well. It'd be pretty sweet to have those at a discounted price. In the end though, I wonder if it'll just end up being a wash for season ticket holders. Lower prices on preseason tickets or less interesting regular season games, but then jack up the price on the hot regular season matchups.

That was what the story on the news speculated (lower in the preseason, higher in the regular season for certain opponents) and the statement and story did seem to be aimed at season ticket holders.

I know my friend that has season tickets and he pays a flat price for every game regardless of the opponent or if it was regular season or preseason.

It would probably end up being a wash for season ticket holders but would benefit those who aren't by buying tickets unable (or unwanted) to be used for lesser opponents.

And I know it's ridiculous that preseason is full price (I think we all agree on that) but I still don't think dropping the ticket price would change much for those games.

So would they do it like airlines, raise the prices the closer you get to game date?

What happens if there's 10k tickets unsold and it's approaching 72 hours before kickoff?

The last tickets needed to be sold to lift the blackout would cost more?

              No.

Predetermined but variable prices based on the opponent.

No different than how MLB teams and NHL teams do it.

Edit: Here's the full story and is much better than the short snippet I saw on the news.

Sounds like it's not just the Steelers who are considering and it was a conversation that started at the owners meetings.

First saw mentions of variable pricing in December when the FCC proposed killing sports blackout rules.

NBA does it too. Costs a lot more to go see the Mavs play the Lakers than it does to see the Mavs play the Bucks.
                  NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
                  NBA: Dallas Mavericks

I assumed so but don't pay attention to the NFL and didn't want to mention them if it wasn't true.

I guess it would cut into scalpers' profit margins.

Clearly you meant the NBA. Off topic, everytime I see your avatar when I'm scrolling down a page I see a koala, not a big foot.

I don't think it would have an affect on scalpers at all.

Everyone should ask someone if they're trying to find a Boston Market at least once in their lives.
