If that happens there are going to be many, many flags and some teams might need expanded rosters.

Turner is a smart man to do that. Patterson needs the ball in his hands. He's gonna have a huge year for Minnesota next season, even with a junk QB. I'm super high on his potential.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: NFL Off Topic
"And his reason behind it was that people fought against people using that word. People felt like that word was demeaning. There were terrible acts done by men using that word and by people using that word."
That's some sound reasoning to me.
Quote from Clark:
"I think it's going to be really tough to legislate this rule, to find a way to penalize everyone who uses this word," Ryan Clark, a Pittsburgh Steelers safety who's spent 12 years in the league, told ESPN's Bob Ley during an "Outside The Lines" special report. "And it's not going to be white players using it toward black players. Most of the time you hear it, it's black players using the word."
If anything the rule is discriminatory because it will only target one group of people.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

According to Ryan Clark, Dan Rooney wanted the N-Word out of the Locker Room:

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm sure most owners do want it out. There's really no good that comes out of that word. Obviously it's slang, but it's such a polarizing word. One person can be fine with it, while another can take offense to it even in a joking or friendly manner. It's similar to the homophobic words; they're engrained in our vocabulary that we don't realize that it can be very offensive to some while completely fine to others.
If the NFL is going to try to become a more professional work place, this type of slang shouldn't be acceptable and there should be some consequences to it.
Now I'm speaking about the use of it in locker rooms and team facilities. On the field, it's going to be next to impossible to penalize. Honestly, penalizing for speech is ridiculous. If you can't come up with a suitable way to officiate that kind of stuff, you can't make it a rule. It's not like helmet to helmet hits where it's a danger even if its sometimes hard to make a call in real time.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

To play devils advocate:
If we are opponents and I say I'm going to murder and rape your family that shouldn't be penalized? And that is the PG version of what I'm gonna really say to you.
Is it an exaggeration? I wouldn't put it past people in the heat of the moment.
I don't believe speech should be a free for all.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Good luck trying to police this.
I applaud Rooney for making the attempt, but even he should've known that wasn't going to last. And Goodell will realize this soon enough. They're wasting their time with this.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
It's a nice sentiment but it has a lot of problems. The biggest one being policing it. We already have enough plays in the football that are decided by the refs' judgement and now we're asking a bunch of middle-aged and older men to call penalties based on the things that people are saying? Are players going to be flagged for calling each other the n-word in a friendly manner? Are you going to start flagging for all curse words? Which ones are going to get flagged? A ref might come into a conversation between players at a weird time and hear something out of context and throw a flag. Or you're going to have players start egging on guys even more to try and get them to curse at them to draw a flag.
When you're talking about throwing 15 yard personal foul flags for someone cursing while their body is pumping adrenaline and you're playing a GAME, I think you're going way too far.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Re: NFL Off Topic
Whether or not it's a game it is a mutli-billion dollar industry with a wide range of people in the audience. I think there is good reasoning behind the proposed change. I think when the NFL players are in the eye of the public they should be held to a higher standard.
In the lockerrom and off camera they can say whatever they want.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: NFL Off Topic
They should be able to say whatever they want on the Football field. If I know talking about your Mom/GF/Wife is going to get into your head and effect your performance, why should I be penalized for it?
If this was the NBA, I could understand this a bit more since Fans are right on the top of the players and are going to hear some wild stuff. On an NFL Field though, that's going to be difficult as hell to police especially with the reasons SF mentioned.
I appreciate the effort in trying to reduce the use of the word on the field, but also know it's simply a waste of time trying to police it's use. Same goes for curse words as well because if you' start penalizing words like that, then it's only a matter of time before they start penalizing players for dropping the 4 letter F Bomb or any other curse word.#RespectTheCultureComment
