    Re: NFL Off Topic

I don't think anyone is defending Riley Cooper.

The difference between the two situations, though, is this: Riley Cooper did something stupid that would make people not like him; Desean Jackson decided to invest in and become the CEO of a rap label when he already has a reputation for having a poor work ethic and not being committed. It's a pattern for DJax. Doesn't help that his label employs a man who was accused in the murder of a 14 year old...because of throwin up the wrong signs.

Those are different types of bad decisions.

Of course it's ultimately about the money, but if they're on the fence about keeping him, the other **** is gonna sway them in an obvious direction.

And I think the Skins are the real winners here, not Jackson, and not the Eagles.

****, many wanted that guy from Miami's head for bullying. Of course all this is personal opinion as a fan. Teams obviously have to take many things into consideration when situations come up. But as a fan I think Cooper should have been shown the door.

If he was a Patriot who helps us win games would I feel the same? I dunno. Easy for me to say Cooper should because he's an Eagle.
Remember, I've already I could care less what these guys do in their off time. I'm not naive to the fact that some of these guys say/do some ****ed up stuff or could very well be ****ed up in their own right. Just get my team W's in the end.

I didn't even realize it was until yesterday. That is extremely aggravating. They probably did it so there is "more" NFL to talk about, because after the draft there isn't much until camps open...

Yeah, what Riley Cooper said was awful, but at the end of the day, I don't think he's viewed as a leader of the team, nor is he going to go to jail for saying racist words (unless it were a consistent problem for him within the organization, but I feel like we would have heard about that at this point).

It's completely different from DeSean, who was arguably the face of the team, and was being paid 9-10 million a year. That's a lot of money to pay to a guy that from reports, was setting a bad example for the rest of the team, and was in a position where teammates would be looking at the example that he sets.

The Eagles just brought in a new coach that runs a new system, and he wants his players to all be invested in the new system. If one of the leaders of your team isn't with that, then he becomes a problem. I don't blame Philly at all for cutting him.

The "gang ties" are just a side story of why he was cut. They simply felt they couldn't build their team up with one of their key players (and of their biggest salary hits) not buying in IMO.

So we should just let Riley the racist slide because he isn't the face of the franchise? Get outta here with that bull****. Anything to try to justify it I guess.

If Cooper had been cut he wouldn't have had a problem finding a job either. There are a million things that make teams keep one player and cut another. If talent isn't one of them the player moves on and the world keeps spinning. No idea why this is even a comparison... besides things that are against the TOS (yes, that is a warning).

My point is that it's more about the money and the team concept. Cooper had a career year in Chip's system, and it was blatantly obvious that he had completely bought into the system. And he's just a guy on the team. DeSean is more about himself (which has been documented for a long time), and he wants to get paid the big bucks without buying in. It won't work like that with Chip, who is known for his ability to interchange players and his desire for his players to be committed to his system. If DeSean were only getting paid $5 million or less, he probably wouldn't be cut, but $9-10 million is a lot of money to invest in a guy that isn't all in.

                      Anyways, that's just my .02

Yea I don't think any person in this thread has defended Cooper and if he were to have been cut after the incident I don't think anybody would've been up in arms.

As it stands: he wasn't cut. He played very well in the season. There are no reports of additional issues with teammates. There are no reports of any type of on the field, lockerrom, or off the field issues since that isolated incident.

                        When can we move forward?

Players can be territorial about their uniform number, and in most cases when they go to a new team they can negotiate to get the jersey number from whoever has it. DeSean Jackson wore No. 10 in Philadelphia and it seems like he'd like to keep wearing it, with one big problem. That number is taken, by quarterback Robert Griffin III, the face of the franchise.

How the hell does the players union allow the NFL to dictate a policy that they have to buy all the unsold jerseys out there if they want to change their name or number? That's some ridiculous ****.
