Re: NFL Off Topic
There wasn't, and they were both initially charged so whatever information the police had that we don't know seems to indicate they were both in the wrong.
Obviously, being a man (and a professional football player at that) makes him infinitely more wrong, but the idea that the league should trump law enforcement (in EVERY case, not just this one) always blows me with the comments around here. I did expect him to get a larger suspension, but I'm not really shocked that he didn't either. We don't have enough information to say... all we know is that he wasn't charged.Comment

I mean what more do you want people to say? It's an absolute joke something like that can get you a 4 game suspension, but hit your GF in the face it's a 2 game suspensionSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
How about we take a closer look...
If you smoke weed you actually don't get even a slap on the wrist. You get a warning... not even released to the media or the rest of the world to know about. And not just weed, this is also true of PEDs which directly effect the competitive balance of the sport you play.
So what are we REALLY talking about. A more accurate summary would be "If you do something your employer tells you to stop doing MULTIPLE times you will get punished, and the punishments will get worse the more you continue to do it." It's not specific to weed, PEDS, domestic violence, anything. It's not even specific to the NFL. This is pretty much a general rule of life.
Now lets take a closer look at the other situation. The law enforcement system put in place by the United States of America/State of New Jersey/any other level you want to look at has much more evidence then us couch QBs posting on a forum, and based on all the laws they have and Rice's situation, decided he won't get charged at all and just needs to take some classes. But we should expect the NFL to say "NO! You all clearly don't know what you're doing, so we're going to punish this guy much harsher."
And then the tri-fecta of it all... let's compare these two completely different situations to make the grand point.:

Re: NFL Off Topic
You say we aren't to sit here and basically act couch QBs when he wasn't charged, because we basically don't know all the facts? Ok that's fine and an understandable logic.
Seems hypocritical to then say we can't compare the situations because they get warnings, etc for the drug use. This is the first I've heard of such a thing in the NFL. You even said your self the media or the rest of the world doesn't know about these warnings given. So how do you know about this?
Just because he wasn't charged doesn't mean he didn't get off with a little something because he's a popular athlete, which unfortunately seems to be the case these days(The only reason this is a serious discussion is because of videos that have supposedly surfaced, otherwise we truly don't know). However, I should stop these comments right here because I can already tell it'll upset someLast edited by Chrisksaint; 07-24-2014, 04:52 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
On television, Schefter said that Rice may have suspended for 3-5 games if not for a positive meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell. It’s worth noting that Rice’s ultimate suspension is half what players who test positive for Adderall or multiple times for marijuana receive (the first time), and less than half of the five games in which*Terrelle Pryor had to miss*at the start of his career for accepting free tattoos at Ohio State.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Separate fine schedule for PEDs though, first offense is 4 games.

You can't compare them because they are completely situations. I've always hated that and it never makes sense (not just in sports... in the court of law as well). The details of every situation is different. The punishment is meant to deter the person from breaking the law/rule again. If there are factors that indicate a stiffer punishment is needed (like breaking the same law/rule multiple times) then the same offense will bring different charges. Taking it even further, the precedent is specific to the act and breaking a league rule follows a different evaluation than getting in trouble with the law, so there absolutely is no comparison to how these situations would be evaluated.
Somebody (mestevo?) can talk about the specific rules but I'm pretty sure we (the public) don't hear about athletes breaking drug rules until they are already in the program, meaning their second offense. So, if we know then that means they were caught once before already.
Finally, you're bringing in a completely different topic now (unless you're saying Blackmon isn't a popular athlete since you were trying to compare the two before). But again, we have some cops around here that can correct me if I'm wrong... the only reason we know about this stuff is bc he's a popular athlete. I'm pretty sure there are tons and tons of domestic violence cases very similar to this one that get charged the exact same way. Hell, pretty much anyone that knows anything about the specifics of cases like this said Rice wouldn't get charged right after it happened.Comment
