I agree though that the refs make some real ****ty calls sometimes. Jerome Boger (my least favorite ref in the league) completely botched a fumble call against Johnny Manziel and invoked the tuck rule.

Yep. Had that game on tv. That whole scenario was ridiculous. Basically Marvin Lewis won the game off an illegal challenge.

Did you see what just happened? Tampa had 12 on the field but the refs had no idea. Tampa gains 20+ yards to set up a chip shot winning field goal. Cinci challenges with 12 seconds left. Refs charge them a timeout because they aren't allowed to challenge a play. But then reward Cinci by reviewing the play to reverse the play and charge Tampa a penalty for 12 men when they had absolutely no interest in reviewing the play until Cinci challenged it.

          Holy crap!

That's pretty bad. I have a feeling there's going to be a statement from the league about this tomorrow. Unfortunately, it doesn't change what happened today.

I thought you couldn't call penalties on a challenge?

If Lewis would've called a TO (he had two) same thing would've happened. He also lost a TO throwing the challenge flag so it all worked out. Not a big deal and incompetence by Tampa in the clutch once again.

Well he didn't call a timeout. He threw an illegal challenge flag and was rewarded for it. It is a big deal.

I literally said in the original post that we wouldn't have been in the position to win if the refs were paying attention to that in the first place lol.

So the refs got it right and you're just mad because the correct call negatively affected your favorite team?

Personally, I'm glad they got it right in the end, don't really care how.

I'd argue it's ridiculous that Lewis had to point out to the refs there should have been a penalty in the first place.

Every week we say we just want to the refs to get it right and in this case they did.

I'm mad that the refs made a mistake, had no interest in reviewing it, but then reviewed it because Cinci illegally challenged it.

I absolutely agree that it's ridiculous that the refs couldn't count on their own, but the fact is they couldn't, and they had no idea they had made a mistake until Cinci illegally challenged it.

Edit: Looks like the NFL VP of Officiating is saying that they were going to review it anyways, but they have to wait and see if the offense can line up legally for the following play before they're allowed to blow it dead to review? I don't know, that just sounds weird to me lol. Even Pereira is apparently calling BS on that excuse.

I bitch about the refs all the time but they did nothing wrong in that Tampa game. They changed that rule that if you throw the flag in that situation the refs can still look at it ever, not like the Lions/ Texans last Thanksgiving.
