Alex Smith fined for wearing San Francisco Giants cap during post-game interview:

Alex Smith grew up in La Mesa, outside San Diego, so it's not a surprise he used to wear a Padres cap at postgame press conferences. But Alex Smith used to be terrible, so something had to change. Last year, in the midst of a successful season, he switched to a Giants cap and used it as a good luck charm, donning it after every win.

All was right with the world. The league had a new marketable star. As Smith won games, he won the hearts of his adopted hometown and created some crosstown synergy between two playoff-bound teams. So what did the NFL do? They fined him $15,000 for wearing the cap after Sunday's win.

If you go for 2 early and don't convert your down 9. So if you force a safety your down 7 and not 6. Therefore if you score a touchdown, you have to kick the extra point to tie and not to win.

Oh man, I completely forgot to anticipate the obvious upcoming safety.

              Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

For the record, I'm on team "go for it early".

I hate when teams go for 2 too early, knowing there is a ton of football left to play and the score differential at that moment isn't likely to be the same throughout, but in the 4th I'd rather go for it and know what I need to do instead of waiting & hoping at the end.

A lot of the conversation on the topic has focused on whether the 2 pointer is made or not. Let's just keep the scenario equal for both situations:

If you make it: You're good either way, game is within a touchdown in both scenarios.

If you don't make it: You know you have some work to do, the odds are against you, but there's still a chance.... or... it's over. I'd rather still have a chance.

While I agree with the welcome to the league sentiment. He was asked a question and he answered, and while I personally didn't think there was a lot of "dirty" stuff, that I saw. The head spike was completely unnecessary.

Sure, but he has to learn that the stuff he calls dirty and unprofessional is going to happen in more games than not. Especially since he's a rookie. He isn't doing himself any favors whatsoever airing it all out in the media.

Just learned that Vince Young is now broke.

A radio station in Nashville had local restaurant employees call up and talk about his spending habits.

Dude spent 5k a week at the local Cheesecake Factory. Picking up the tab for teammates.

One day he dropped 6k at a TGI Friday's. LOL

I never wish money issues on people, but what a dummy.

As usual, the problem is everyone around him, not himself. I like how he was the first client of a "financial management firm" started by a defense attorney and a school teacher (who, btw, was his uncle). Brilliant!
