    Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I picked a good first Sunday to have RedZone. Games on local TV were **** for either the entire game (Bears/Rams) or not interesting for like 3 quarters (Redskins/Bengals).

Wouldn't have been able to follow the insanity in the Detroit/Tennessee and Jacksonville/Indy games without it.

        Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

The whole "This was the craziest week ever" meme (due in part to three overtime games) inspired me to search for some other "crazy" weeks, which I will, for the sake of simplicity, define as the amount of overtime games played.

It took me a few searches to stumble onto Week 6 of the 1995 NFL season, which had 5 overtime games.

Is there a replacement referee/referee lockout discussion thread that I have missed? If not, the referees have certainly proven themselves worthy of a thread.

I keep hearing that the Titans will try to trade Johnson. The one thing that jumps to mind is: "Are other GMs that stupid?" I'll just wait for the Titans to either cut him or swallow that huge contract rather than gamble and possibly lose.

I thought by and large the crew that did the Bills/Browns game was pretty good though there were a couple interference calls against the Bills that should've been called and a couple very iffy/phantom calls as well. At least it was a lot better than some of the crap I saw last week.

Perhaps but lets keep that discussion here in this thread for now.

The refs certainly are getting worse each week (and having a large impact on the result of these close games too). The fighting is getting out of hand, defenders are taking cheap shots after every tackle, DBs are playing like it's 1985 without being penalized for it... but are being called for things that don't seem to be happening. Games are on pace to be 6 hours long by week 7.

The refs are about the same. It's the players and coaches that are escalating things by knowing what they can get away with and doing it.

A more accurate statement would be to say the whole situation is getting worse each week. Directly bashing these guys is getting old because they're clearly doing the best they can. Either way, it does need to be fixed before something really stupid happens.

Haha, kinda like how Peyton should have been the league MVP last year. I would love to believe that the issues facing the Saints are due to missing Payton but I think a big part of it is injury's and the new defensive system. You would think when a D.C. takes a job having key personnel that fit that scheme would be part of the decision making process.

As far as the replacement refs go, I do believe the regular refs blow calls occasionally-but I don't remember ever being concerned with them being educated on the actual rules of the NFL.

I'm sorry but they are not about the same. Give extra time outs. Allowing challenges when a team is out, prematurely telling teams the game is over, stepping off 20 yards on a 15 yard penalty? No they are no where close to the real refs, not by a long shot.

We'll they are replacement refs arent they? If you expected them to equal the established professional refs then I don't know what to say. Calling their performance bad and inexperienced is calling the sky blue at this point.

They are about the same as they were in Week 1. You misunderstood.

The replacements don't have a grasp over all the rules that don't exist in whatever level they're used to, aren't decisive enough, have poor control over the procedures, and are so worried about making a call that they can't control the post-whistle shenanigans or remember where the ball was spotted before the previous play. There's no denying that. No amount of screaming and yelling is going to change that, and the players/coaches need to start acting like the professionals they are. Glad to see some coaches getting fined for acting like babies. Hopefully more are to come.
