I see McCarron being a very good NFL QB IF he's in the right spot. The guy is the quintessential top flight college QB that gets taken lower in the draft and has a solid workmanlike career. Put him in either a low risk situation backing up a QB heading on the downside of his career or on a team with ready made pieces but missing a QB and he'll do well.

You put him on a team like Jacksonville and he'll be working as an analyst on college football within 5 years.

Most of the QBs who've had chances to come out early but stayed in college have not fared well -- Jason White, Leinart, Bradford.

Bradford is the only one whose draft status wasn't hurt by staying an additional year or two.

Was there interest in McCarron in previous years?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Matt Barkley's stock fell when he came back?

Yup, there was talk about him being a top 10 pick, it seems.

Locker got picked 8th and that was a surprise. He passed up big money when he could have been picked before the rookie salary scale.

Bradford had some injuries after he went back but he still ended up being the top pick.

All they did is make their colleges and college head coaches more money, while risking their pro money prospects. Very generous.

I believe he was touted as a top 5 pick but decided to stay in school where he had a sub par season and injury so yep, his stock fell pretty bad.

15 yard penalty automatic first down guys

They have to make flags like this reviewable. Its impossible for defenders these days. This game was littered with ridiculous penalties on both sides.

Really?!?!? How, why and what are defenders suppose to do in that situation to stop the ball from being completed?

That was a textbook great hit, just a bad flag.

I understand wanting to stay in school for the degree and etc, but I was reading that Teddy Bridgewater was pondering returning to school, even though he got his degree this month. Just makes no sense when he is going to be a top 5 pick.

You wonder if they're mentally ready for the NFL.

It might be more comfortable to stay with what you know, instead of going to the next level, where it's a man's game.

He better get an insurance policy then.

It makes sense to him. If he loves to do it, and he wants to play against tougher competition (which was also a rumor as to why he wants to stay), who are any of us to tell him he'd be stupid to stay?

                          NFL competition wouldn't be tougher?

I wont call him stupid, his choice is his choice and I will respect whatever decision he makes but the "better competition" argument makes no sense.

I do think, considering his current stock, it would be silly not to go but won't hold his decision against him one way or the other.

How does it make "no sense"? If he doesn't feel like he's ready, and wants to play against tougher competition, staying in college whenever his team is moving to a better conference is the smartest choice he can make.

Sooner he goes pro the sooner he gets to a non-slotted contract if he can prove his worth.

The only "counter" argument people can ever come up with is the money. Money isn't everything. He'll never have the experience he's having in college ever again.

But stupid him for staying if he decides to stay.
