Maybe the Harbaugh stuff was overblown? I hope so.

Amid rumors and reports that Jim Harbaugh is unhappy or is at odds with the San Francisco 49ers, the coach says he only wants to do one thing: "Coach the team."

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Harbaugh said he's told owner Jed York, "I don't want any more power. I want to coach the team. And I've never told anybody else otherwise."

Of course he's going to say that.

I love it. It actually makes the PAT relevant. And probably takes the XP back to it's origins. When the creators of the game were drawing up the rules, I am guessing there weren't too many kicking specialists with the benefits of 21st century technology and training. I don't believe it was ever intended to be a proposition with a 99.6% success rate.

It will add an entirely new dimension when a team is down by 6 driving for a late TD.

You're right, I've seen plenty of broadcasts from the '70s to the early '80s where the announcer would say "and so and so have scored a TD with the conversion to follow" or something close to that. The XP while normally converted at least had a possibility of being missed or blocked back rather than the complete formality it has become now.

Be careful what you wish for. As it stands now a td is worth more than two fgs. Take that away and you've changed the fundamental nature of the game...and not for the better.

Increasing the importance of fgs and fg kickers at the expense of tds and the actual football players who score them is an almost unimaginably bad idea. "If it ain't broke..."

I don't think it's going to change the game THAT much. We might see something on the order of 5% of PATs missed. That's going to change some things but it's not going to completely change the nature of the game. Of course if a big market/well followed team gets screwed because of it than we're going to see a ton of bitching from people.

A TD has always been worth two FG's with an opportunity for an additional point. The game has effectively evolved away from it's fundamental nature. This rule (with the 83% success rate in 2013) will actually take the game back to the spirit in which it was intended.

If anything it gives coaches something to think about. Go for a two-yard two-point conversion, or kick a 42-yard extra point.

Yea I can't get on board with a 42 yard extra point at all.

Brandon Browner reinstated in time for free agency. May still have small suspension. League didn't want that lawsuit.

42 yard extra points are an overkill solution to a problem that doesnt really exist.

Me neither. I've got a better idea.

Reduce touchdowns to four points, keep the PAT at one, and make field goals worth 5 points. Get rid of placekicking. The only way to score goals is via the dropkick, or if the ball is fumbled and then kicked.

Oh, and while we are at it, get rid of the snap. Proper football is initiated with a scrum, and no more forward passing.

There you guys go, I fixed the PAT issue, the defenseless receiver issue, the stupid QB rules, and placekickers being too damn accurate. I have single handedly solved all of the ills of modern football.

What would the law suit have been about? Just wondering because Tenard Jackson still has yet to be reinstated from his "year long" suspension from two years ago.
