NFL didn't send reminders for his testing to an address he actually lived at while he was playing in Canada. That's why he never took them. Judging by their reaction and the NFL generally just laughing these types of things off as they stand pat, it may actually have been true.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Be careful what you wish for. As it stands now a td is worth more than two fgs. Take that away and you've changed the fundamental nature of the game...and not for the better.
Increasing the importance of fgs and fg kickers at the expense of tds and the actual football players who score them is an almost unimaginably bad idea. "If it ain't broke..."NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Re: NFL Off Topic
For as long as I've been watching football, coaches, players and fans have been dismissive of kickers and placekicking in general ("they're not real football players", etc., etc.). Now it seems that many of those same people are on board with a rule change that could potentially make those very same kickers even more important than they are now.

The adoption of the 2pt conversion in 1994 had larger impact to the "nature of the game" since this proposed change.Comment

If we get rid of the short extra point due to it being a "near-given" then we should get rid of snapping the ball and just having the QB start with it on the same precedent. Broncos would agree.Fan of:

My bad, I should have been more precise. Change my original post to read "the fundamental nature of the game as it has existed for the last 50+ years".

As I said earlier most of those 50+ years you're talking about the PAT was NOT a complete given. They're just adding an element of uncertainty that was part of the game until, I would say, about 1986 or so.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

League avg PAT success % for selected seasons
1963: NFL 95.0, AFL 96.5
1973: 96.8
1983: 95.2
1993: 96.8
2003: 98.4
2013: 99.6

Have kickers gotten better at converting PAT's? Yes. But the PAT has been an extremely high odds proposition for the entire modern era. That's a good thing, imo, because it rewards teams that score tds and punishes teams that settle for fgs.
Just leave well enough alone.Comment

I don't see how moving back the PAT is going to make it less than a 95% proposition so if anything it's not going to be such a big problem like some are making it out to be.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
Moving it back to 43 yards would make it much less than a 95% proposition. Especially in bad weather.Comment

42 yard kicks aren't gimmies. I'm not a fan of making kickers more important than they are. They already ruin enough dreams as it is.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Anything over 40 is iffy. I'd like to see some numbers on something like a 35 yard FG or so. I support moving the PAT back, but 42-43 yards seems excessive. I would like for it to be relatively successful but just enough uncertainty that you can't change the channel after a TD is scored.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: NFL Off Topic
For anyone pushing for the XP to be moved to 42 yards, I bet you'll be the first to go nuts when your team loses a game because the kicker missed the XP late in the game.
Heck, if we want to make it more challenging maybe make them kick from a hash mark of their choice instead of straight on."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment
