In the past, off the field stuff didn't matter as much. Legends of bygone eras got into stuff nobody will ever know about.

Since Goodell came to be commissioner, a lot of the off the field stuff is being punished.

Manziel is gonna be scrutinized if he's doing illicit drugs. It's no longer just going out and having fun with alcohol.

I didn't think he was gonna crash & burn, but he just moved up one notch closer to it with this behavior. I thought he's been kind of playing with the media's infatuation with him, but this was a bonehead move.

Poor Browns fans. It's bad enough on the field, now you've got the foundation of your future screwing themselves and in turn screwing the team & their fans.

Manziel doesn't strike me as a coke head.

I think he's just effing with folks as he knows it makes headlines.

As long as he shows up and plays hard, I don't care what he does in the offseason, so long as he doesn't hurt anyone.

He probably isn't a cokehead. I'm sure a lot of players do it. But many don't get caught doing it (or likely doing it). I haven't seen the picture.

If it was a gag, that **** isn't funny.

****ing around with drugs isn't cool. Seen way too many people try it, and years later they're dead or in jail or just a mess.

Then they should drug test him asap, if everyone here is so sure that's the only reason to roll up money, knowing the ramifications and also knowing anybody with a cellphone camera is now a reporter.

As jmood said earlier, if you can ball and keep yourself out of prison and alive, you're gonna have a job.

Gordon was suspended the first 2 games of last year, so no it didn't take him this long to actually get in trouble.

As for off field (I'm guessing you mean legal stuff not just partying) stuff not mattering - there's a mountain of names I could roll out to the contrary in the Goodell era.

No one will get on your tail for having a good time in the off season if you're winning in the regular and post season. But if you're losing, those fans will blame everything on you and what you do outside the field gets put on blast.

Preliminary OK for the revised concussion settlement was issued today, will cover all retired players prior to today even if not part of the suit, no cap on total payout which will depend on tenure and diagnosis. Probably finalized in 90 days after players have been given the opportunity to opt out to pursue their own lawsuits where applicable.
