    Re: NFL Off Topic

What I read didn't say erased for both. Welker would possibly have his erased and Gordon might have his reduced. And even those weren't givens. They just said those two would be smart to work closely with the NFLPA on this.

The situations for what they got suspended for would be gone with the new deal though. Gordon wouldn't have failed and Welker would have only been warned because it would be substance abuse and not PEDs.

    Unrelated to all that:

      Which part is pathetic?

The fact that they have to basically cut these guys a break to test them for stuff that they should already be tested for to begin with. Just rubs me the wrong way and sends a horrible message to Josh Gordon.

Erasing or severely reducing punishment just to get an agreement on HGH testing is indicative of the players union doing whatever they can to allow players who've clearly done wrong to get off. They'll make deals for short term benefit and once we start seeing issues with players get taking HGH you know as well as I do that the union will scream to high heaven about some ticky tacky issues and fight tooth and nail to get those suspensions reduced or erased.

If they're going to do this at least show some responsibility and start the clock now with Welker and Gordon having to serve their time like they're supposed to.

I don't see anything talking about erasing punishment except for the 'pathetic' NFL comments. They're talking about reworking the policies to be more inline with the olympic standards (which are 10x the current levels of THC or whatever detected) and moving amphetamines over into substance abuse... since that's what they apparently consider them. Perhaps tests invalidate their use as a masking agent now so they can be classified as simply a banned substance rather than a PED? I don't know. Or perhaps that's a concession the NFLPA has gotten out of the NFL in exchange for adding HGH testing if that's actually coming.

I don't see a problem with then holding these recent suspensions to the same standard... Welker would then be held to the drug policy... if he's on strike one then it would be increased testing. Applying those changes to Gordon's case would reduce him back down to a strike 2 since the tested levels would be 10% of the new standard, 1 strike from a year suspension for the next 2 or so years.

These would seem to be victories for the players and the union, but the NFL is pathetic because of it? For having what many would then consider more reasonable and typical standards for a sports drug program? There's no backroom deal for 2 players, it should affect anyone with an appeal currently in progress (almost always seem to be a couple that we don't know about yet) or were recently suspended (Welker, Gordon). They aren't getting off, no slates are being wiped clean here. They'll be the poster children for those benefiting, but won't be alone by any stretch - almost 30 people are currently suspended in part due to PEDs, I don't see why others might be revisited depending on what they tested positive for.

Perhaps we'll finally see who really tested positive for Adderall or not

Yeah, it is a fantastic move by the Bengals. It's gotten a lot of attention but not nearly as much as it deserves (imo).

Why does the NFL have such a uniform boner? This league really likes to make sure everything is regulated. Who gets fined when one blade of grass is one sixteenth of an inch too long?

With the NFL's aggressive crackdown against hits to the head and neck -- a response to the ongoing concussion crisis -- some players express concerns that defensive players would simply start to go low to avoid drawing penalties, fines and suspensions.

When it comes to the NFL's new policy on domestic violence, many of the details won't be known until a player or two (or more) end up caught in the gears of its application.

The fact that Harbaugh is McDonald’s coach could create a separate area of trouble for the player, based on this quote from former 49ers safety Donte Whitner: “He said that we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he’ll forgive us except put our hands on women. If you put your hand on a woman then you’re done in his book.”
McDonald is playing on Sunday according to ESPN. Way to go Harbaugh. SMGDMFH.

I think we see so many more football players doing stuff like this because there are simply more football players. 53 players per team on 32 teams versus 15 players per team on 30 teams, about 30 players per team on 30 teams, and about 20 plaers per team on 30 teams. Not to even mention the fact that these guys are simply rich as hell and play in the most popular sports league in the country.
