6 years ago, the damn devil walked into my life. I was working with my buddy when we heard the Jay Cutler trade come over the radio. We both went nuts. Lost all emotion and control. Next to the birth of my kids, it was one of the happiest days of my life. The Bears FINALLY had a quarterback who was 25-years old and coming off his first Pro Bowl.

Took my family to Bourbonnais for camp in '09. Place was PACKED. Every Bears fan was juiced beyond comprehension.

And then it all went to ****.

Here we are today with some of us(who have some sense) that want this cancer off the damn team.

I need a drink...

Just saw this article on NFL.com through my facebook page. That trade kinda altered the league a little. Through various other trades that happened. With these players involved. If Cutler and Orton were the roots, the branches grew everywhere, including names like Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Devin McCourty, Tim Tebow, Mike Wallace, Aaron Hernandez and others.

Well you kinda won two Super Bowls with Eli as your quarterback. If Cutler had gotten the Bears two rings, then his attitude would be considered funny. But he folds like a tent when Chicago needs him the most, flops against Green Bay, and breaks a nail with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

I can't believe he still has any supporters (he does), and I can't believe after he was thoroughly outplayed by his backup in 2013 that he ends up with that huge contract. At least that incompetent Trestman is gone and the Bears have a real coach who isn't about to put up with Cutler's mistakes.

That is crazy though for a starting QB in the NFL to not get any bids on an autographed ball. His stock couldn't be lower.

Five years ago yesterday — and precisely five Easters ago today — the NFL proved that pro football never takes a day off, via the out-of-nowhere trade that sent quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Eagles to Washington.

In hindsight, it really wasn’t a bolt from the blue. Even though former Eagles coach Andy Reid had declared McNabb to be the starter for 2010, some (like PFT) wouldn’t believe it until Philadelphia extended McNabb’s contract, which was due to expire after the upcoming season. A week before the trade happened, we concluded that a trade was inevitable; a day before it happened, Jay Glazer of FOX reported that Philadelphia and Washington had been talking about a possible deal.

After a declaration from former G.M. (now executive V.P. of football operations) Bruce Allen that McNabb would be the quarterback in D.C. “for years,” McNabb eventually got a new contract, a grossly overhyped deal that came after McNabb had been benched by former Washington coach Mike Shanahan. Initially reported as being a five-year extension worth $78 million, with $40 million guaranteed, the new contract guaranteed McNabb only $3.5 million.

McNabb’s “for years” tenure with the team amounted to one, with 13 starts, 3,377 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and 10 fumbles (only one of which was recovered by the opposing defense). Next came a post-lockout trade to the Vikings for a sixth-round draft choice that became running back Alfred Morris.

Five days after the deal, Deion Sanders of NFL Network declared it to be the “dumbest trade ever,” comparing it to the Herschel Walker “shibacle,” with the Eagles in Deion’s view getting the raw end of the transaction. Philly actually won the trade in the short term, winning the division in 2010 with Mike Vick resurrecting his career after a Week One concussion suffered by Kevin Kolb.

Neither team won the trade over the long haul, with both franchises missing the playoffs in 2011, and Washington pressing the reset button in 2012 with a blockbuster deal for Robert Griffin III. Washington won the division with a 10-6 record that year, the Eagles won the division the following season with a 10-6 record (and a new head coach), and both team missed the playoffs in 2014.

The deal is now officially a lose-lose, with neither franchise winning a playoff game in the five years since McNabb left Philly.

Maybe the two teams can give it another try this year, if Marcus Mariota falls past the first four picks and remains on the board when Washington is on the clock.

I wouldn't call it a lose-lose, really just a push, more a loss for Washington for willingly taking McNabb on and the loss of a pick.

Philly avoided getting locked into a contract with an aging and diminished veteran, and Washington was only on the hook for a couple million while taking a chance on a player who was very good for very long.

If the trade never happened, both teams would probably be worse off. Philly's completely redone the roster (especially this offseason), which probably would've been delayed some time if McNabb was still there, and McNabb being so bad for WSH probably helped the value of the picks they traded up to get RG3 for. If McNabb was even passable, they may not have even made the blockbuster. At least they got a playoff appearance out of it.

It's kind of amazing how McNabb just fell off. Seeing Reid's work post-McNabb with Vick, a little bit of Foles, and Smith, really makes you wonder just how good McNabb was. He definitely was amazing at times for the Eagles, but there were so many frustrating moments that never allowed him to break into that top tier. But I guess not many teams can boast the success and longevity that McNabb had with the Eagles, but it'll always be a lost era having never gotten over the hump. I remember the next day at school after the SB loss... felt like a funeral.

Pretty sure McNabb would've been given the boot once Reid was let go too. Don't see anything going on now being delayed. It probably happens sooner if McNabb played in Philly like he did in Washington.

How so? Because his ex-HC had minimal success with other QBs after him? Because he wasn't the same after age 33? That's harsh.
