Also for the Patriots I still have mixed feelings on the draft. Stork was great this season. Garoppolo seems like he is capable of starting in this league. I don't remember seeing Easley play 1 snap this year.Comment

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Originally posted by DropxEmThe worst part is that out of 12 picks, these were the results
1st- Calvin Pryor busted but it isn't necessarily his fault considering he played more in the box at Louisville and Rex had him in coverage, but as a safety you need to be able to play coverage.
2nd- Jace Amaro got much better towards the end of the year but it doesn't help playing with Geno Smith. Overall best rookie
3rd- Dexter McDougle was a stupid pick then and is still stupid. Missed the whole season on the IR (which was expected because he had just missed his whole senior season with injury)
4th- Dakota Dozier basically had a redshirt season changing from an OT to a OG
4th- Jalen Saunders got cut. Scrub
4th- Shaq Evans didn't play in OTAs because he didn't graduate yet then broke his shoulder in training camp and spent the season on IR
5th- Jeremiah George got cut and sent to the Practice Squad for the year
6th- Tajh Boyd didn't impress Rex enough to make the 53 and got cut
6th- Quincy Enuwa had the same story as George
6th- Brandon Dixon had the same story as Jalen Saunders
6th- IK Enemikpali was mainly special teams and an occasional pass rusher. Good value for a 6th
7th- Trevor Reily was basically the same as IK.
So that's 12 picks with 5 (Pryor, Amaro, Saunders, IK and Reily ) seeing the field, 2 (George and Enuwa) going to the PS, 2 (McDougle and Evans) missing the whole season with injuries and 3 (Saunders, Dixon, Boyd) getting cut altogether. ****ty draft Idzik. Glad you're gone.
1st Round: Dominique Easley: like I said earlier I can't for the life of me remember him seeing the field this year. Because of injury issues. He made 10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT.
2nd Round: Garoppolo: Threw 1 TD and had 180 something yards.
4th Round: Bryan Stork: easily the best pick of our draft. When they gave him a chance at Center after the KC game, our line was great until Dan Connelly went down late in the season.
4th: James White: He had a total of 61 yards.
4th: Cameron Fleming: good 6th tackle.
6th: Jon Halapio: cut and signed with Denver
6th: Zach Moore: 3 tackles .5 sacks 1 forced fumble
6th: Jemea Thomas: cut.
7th: Jeremy Gallon: didn't play.
So there was little production from our draft this year. Stork was a great pick and that's it. The jury is still out on the rest, even though I Garoppolo is going to be a good starter in this league.Comment

Well how do you think Patriots fans think about their draft.
1st Round: Dominique Easley: like I said earlier I can't for the life of me remember him seeing the field this year. Because of injury issues. He made 10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT.
2nd Round: Garoppolo: Threw 1 TD and had 180 something yards.

It was clear they were looking to the future going into the draft. Easley was the best player available at that spot. Granted he didn't play as much as you would expect a first rounder to, there were games where he stood out when filling in for chandler jones a de, especially during the run. If he can get both knees to 100%, and that's a big if, I think patriots fans will understand why bill took the risk.
Jimmy G was a great pick because the talent is clearly there. IMO there wasn't much else in the second round that would have contributed to the Patriots this year. Many people wanted the pats to go te but clearly the patriots expected gronk to perform at a high level this year, which he did. The chase amaro pick would have been a waste IMO.
Stork was a great pick and with vereens contract up, James white is a guy they expect to fill that role. Vereen is great however when you need to resign more important players like revis and McCourty, you have to let other talent go. I think the patriots have always been capable at replacing offensive talent.
Some picks did not work out but that happens with every team, especially a team that has plenty of talent already. Jeremy gallon is also a guy to watch out for if Edelman or amendola end up getting hurt next season. Gallon fits the mold of what the patriots look for in the slot.
Overal, when you look at last years draft, i saw a strategy of finding talent for the 2015 season and beyond. The roster was pretty much taken care of via FA, as the pats went all in for the Super Bowl run.Comment

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Buffalo got three starters from their draft. Watkins might have been too costly. Brown did one heck of a job for a third rounder, starting 14 of 16 games and recording 66 tackles and 43 assists. Then we skip to the seventh where Buffalo acquired Seantrel Henderson whom started all 16 games for the Bills at right tackle.
The stupid Bryce Brown trade hurts though. Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Never post in this thread but I'm in full draft mode considering Boston fans don't really have anything else to look forward to until training camp (Bruins maybe but I'm not holding my breath). If you look at the 53 man roster this year, there weren't many holes to fill via the draft. They were set on defense with the signing of revis and browner and the offensive line still looked very solid with mankins still on the roster.

Did they really need anyone to make an immediate impact? Their offensive line was the only question mark on offensive going into the season IMO and they, whether they expected it or not, got the help with a late draft pick in Stork.
Did anyone expect anything out if Jimmy at QB? White was going to be at best the third string running back with the way they use their backs.
The only pick to be down on is Easley and he was hurt a lot.--
