The main difference between the two is that Leaf's stock was extremly high, and the guy practically sabotaged the draft, while Lyerla's is low no due to his "incidents". But you are right in the fact that there was many guys in NFL and college history that could've "smartened up and realize there potential." Lyerla happens to be another to fall into that sad bunch.

If the Vikings keep that number 8 pick I rather them pick a defensive player then pick up a QB in the second or third.

Agreed. I'm not sure Carr goes anywhere past the Vikings and they could potentially pick him up in the second round.

He is good and has a lot of potential, he didn't have a great season though. It wasn't bad enough to knock him out of the first round. He's probably the 3rd best tackle in the class-behind Matthews and Robinson

He actually had just as good a season in 2013 as he did in 2012. It was obscured by the rest of the OL and the offense as a whole being a radioactive dumpster fire, but Lewan himself was great.

The rest of the oline was AWFUL! Didn't Lewan have a nagging injury though? That's the only thing I can think of that would have made his stock drop

I feel like their biggest need is safety and if Ha Ha is still their they should take him. If not I could see them (and be happy with) taking anLB or a DT

Safety is a great need for Chicago I agree but in your mock Ha Ha is gone and there isn't another safety in the draft that warrants being picked at 14.
