Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread

Daniel Jeremiah's mock 2.0 is up.

I agree with taking Clowney number 1 overall. I know the Texans need a QB, but if this guy turns out to be who they think he is, then that defense will be un-freakin-stoppable.

EDIT: If for whatever reason this guy's draft played-out in a similar fashion, then Houston can take Derek Carr with the 1st pick in the 2nd round. MERCY.

Texans do need an QB but I would go with Clowney. I think Texans need a vet more than anything. They got the run game, defense is there when healthy. I would go Clowney then get a QB in later round and sign an vet that's just me.

Draft Clowney, trade for Weeden, get #1 pick next year, draft Jameis.

        Profit.

Grab a guy like Murray or Fales in the later rounds if you're the Texans and don't want to spend 1st rounder.

I don't think there is a QB worth the no. 1 pick in this draft. I feel like Clowney would be a safer pick for the Texans.

I don't want anyone with a questionable work ethic. From what I've read, Clowney doesn't seem to have the relentless motor that a guy like Watt or Cushing has. After having those two and having to deal with watching Mario Williams taking plays off, I don't want another lazy player ever again.

My ideal scenario would be to trade down, draft an offensive lineman or a linebacker, pick up some picks, and use a 2nd or 3rd on one of those other QBs.

                I don't think we'll do that though.

They have the #1 pick, there's some good QB prospects on the board, they have a gaping hole at QB.

I think some are overthinking this. I'd bet a lot of money they just take a QB.

                    Man!

I don't see him being the player others see him being, unless he goes to a team with an already dominant player on the line. Like the Texans.

It would be very difficult for me to pass up the opportunity of having Watt (hopefully) mentor him and he reach his potential. But if I was the Texas, I'd try out. You'll have enough falling for the Clowney hype and needing QBs that they should get a good deal.

Clowney owes all of this **** to Vincent Smith.

What people don't understand due to not being Texans fans is....

Is the QB play due to the coach playcalls or the Qb himself? That is what needs to be answered. I feel a lot of it has to do with the playcalling after reviewing some hitch plays

I believe the Texans are fine with Schaub, but people don't care about that. They look at his age and his last season and blame him.

I generally agree with this but it was such a train wreck last year what with fans threatening Shaub etc etc. I think it'd be best if they parted ways and the Texans start anew.

Unfortunately none of the QBs are automatic locks to be a franchise guy as they each have huge questions surrounding them.

I also agree. He is one of the most accurate QBs in the NFL. I didn't follow the Texans closely enough to realize what went wrong with him, but I have to wonder if it was the inconsistent running game. I know the texans were an outside zone/stretch-based offense, and they used alot of bootlegs/waggles, so maybe they weren't getting it done on the ground which led them out of their comfort zone ......?

To me, the only knock on Bridgewater is his size and that's something that isn't going to be a factor once he gets an NFL Strength and Conditioning Coach pushing him during camp and the season. By his second year, I'll be shocked if he's not over 210.

                              ....

                              Clowney seems confused..

"When I walked into the meeting rooms, all my coaches said, 'You're playing' and 'Keep playing hard,' " Clowney told the website. "If you watch our tapes, everybody can see I'm playing hard. Guys that don't know anything. ... People expect me to get five sacks, 10 tackles for loss every game, but that wasn't going to happen the way teams were playing me.

"I'm taking 80 snaps a game, all our snaps per game, I'm playing them all. Coaches were like, 'Keep playing the way you play. We love the way you play.' "
He obviously didn't watch himself play this year to think he was on the field for every snap each game, or that he was playing hard every time he was on the field. It was obvious he wasn't trying at times.

The thing that pissed me off about Clowney is how everyone told him he would be the #1 pick this year, and maybe one of the best defensive ends to ever play the game, and he comes out and half-asses the entire season.

If you have people saying all that, back it up. Have the best season of your college career. Break records. Don't sit out plays because you don't feel like playing.
