Yeah that's what I am thinking, too. Someone still make take a flyer on him with a 6th or 7th round pick but unless he improves his numbers quite a bit (and I don't see how you can radically improve your 40 time or bench reps), he may very well go undrafted.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
I hope that the Vikings pass on a QB unless Bortles or Bridgewater are still on the board in the first round. The QB class is deep this year, Carr, McCarron, and Mettenberger should be available in the 2nd round. The Vikings need a stud at MLB. Zimmerman being a defensive guy could go this direction.Chicago Cubs

If the Vikings get cute with the QB position I might blow a gasket. I don't even care who they pick (because let's be real, no one knows who's going to be good or not), but they better pick someone at #8 or trade up.NFL - Vikings

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
So i'm sure this is old news to you all but Mike Mayock believes this is the best draft class he's seen in the last 10 years. He also thinks Manziel is a combination of Doug Flutie and Fran Tarkenton!
Last but not least he feels UB's Khalil Mack should be the #1 pick.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Sarcasm right? (just making sure)
I was pretty much shocked by the Manziel comparison. I only put this out there because I value Mayock (as much as you can value these kind of people) a helluva lot more than someone like Mel Kiper Jr.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
I mean comparisons like that have to be taken with a grain of salt, it's not like he's saying Manziel is better than Flutie and Tarkenton combined. I'm sure it's more of a matter of comparing skill sets, and maybe size, which makes sense.
I mean there were people comparing Manziel to Favre just because of the "gunslinger" mentality, so the Flutie/Tarkenton comparison is like spot on compared to that.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
How is this class weak? You've got three sure fire first rounders with a couple bubble guys, and you've got some late round picks like David Fales or Brett Smith who could turn into solid QBs with some time. I know it's a matter of opinion, but I think this class may be up there with Luck/RG3/Tannehill in 2012.Chicago Cubs

*I used Buffalo in an online dynasty this year and liked the guy a lot ever since. Purposely plugged him when I could in the CFB forum.
Please do get cute with the QB position. The entire NFC North would love Ponder 2.0.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
*I'm biased (in favor) of Johnny Manziel.
I think the scrutiny he gets is blown WAY out of proportion. He doesn't have character issues. He broke a victimless rule. A rule I think we've all agreed is pretty dumb. He didn't get picked up for drugs. He didn't have any domestic disputes. He didn't violate any academic rules. During the two season he played at A&M, you heard nothing about him during the season. That tells me he can turn the partying and what not off when it's time for business. He also improved from year one to year two, especially in the pocket. That shows through all the partying in the off-season, he still found time to put in work. I don't remember his teammates speaking out negatively about him either. Even now.
His frame is slight and he can be a little reckless. More than not, those reckless instances turned into positive plays. A lot of that recklessness was him throwing the ball up to Mike Evans (6'5). I'm not sure the issue with that. I'll take him throwing those up to Vincent Jackson. He can be taught how not to sacrifice his body for a yard or two. He can be taught to remain a little more patient in the pocket. Dude is a playmaker. If any other QB destroyed Bama the way that he has and rarely had a bad game through their college career like him, they'd be getting all kinds of praise/hype.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Quite possibly my favorite quarterback of all time was a notorious party boy, drunk and almost died due to his addiction to painkillers.
That has nothing to do with why I don't like Manziel - I just think he's a bit overrated and is nothing more than a project for long-term QB solution at this point in time. I wouldn't ever spend a first round pick on him, but if he can learn to play in the NFL (because he won't be more athletic than 95% of the opposition in the NFL as opposed to where he was in college) he will be a good pro.
Only time will tell, plus who really cares? Only ~25-35 kids from the draft will ever be considered good players.badComment
