Yep - this exactly. They actually got really lucky it didn't rain during the game, or it would have been a 2-0 final score affair. El Nino has been hammering the Bay area with rain basically all the way up until the game, when the heavens magically parted and the temps came up a good 10-degrees just in time for game time (Goodell is a powerful man...). The Levi's stadium field has been an issue since it opened, as N51_rob mentioned - and given how much non-football foot traffic there was on the field before/during the game, it's actually a bit surprising the turf held up as well as it did. But it's hard to believe that the teams didn't pick up on that earlier - I mean, they leave no stone unturned when looking for an edge in a game like this, right?

Really happy to hear that. It's sad what has happened to him and it was even worse having to watch Tranny Faye Bakker receive the trophy on his behalf.

That was all game. They shot themselves in the foot with turnovers, drops, or Miller/Ware simply got there too quick. It's one what if in a game of what if's.

Going over the whole game, I'd be pissed if I were the Panthers or their fans. Denver's defense was great all game, but Carolina left a lot chances on the field. I don't want to take anything away from what the Broncos defense accomplished because they forced the ball out or got around the tackle in an instant but man! It would be hard not to feel like this one got away.

They absolutely did. Cotchery's drop at the goalline likely took a TD away, Ginn's drop that turned into an INT took away at least a FG. Tolbert's fumble in Denver territory happened just as the run game started getting going. Gano's missed FG. There was at least 15-20 points left on the field.

EDIT: Watching highlights from NFL.com, Talib was offside on the Gano missed FG

Let's not forget all the false starts as well. Felts like they had a ton.

Another thing Carolina did that hurt them happened sometime in the 3rd quarter. Carolina opens the half with a FG drive, then followed that up by driving deep into Denver territory before Cam is intercepted.

Defense forced a quick punt that gave Carolina the ball at midfield. So with the offense showing signs of life, they then run a trick play with Ginn that resulted in a 4 yard loss. Putting them in a 3rd and long situation, killing all momentum.

Yeah, I know "but what if the play worked", it just felt so unnecessary at the time.

Not saying that the refs were on Denver's side, but I just felt like the refs were ****ting on the Panthers all game between what they let Denver get away with and what they flagged Carolina for. Really just the vibe I got.

Judging by Funchess' position at the last pic, the route looks to have been a *very* deep out. He makes an almost 90* cut towards the sideline. That is both a very difficult throw to make (Very few, with emphasis on very, QBs can make that pass, Cam is special in this regard) and a route with little room for YAC. That cut towards the sideline gives the safety the room and the angle to close on the ball, whereas had it been more of a 7 route Funchess' had a lot of room to run. Funchess may not have continued toward the sideline though, we don't know.

As for using this as Cam hate kindle, well it was a route that took a longass time to develop. Blame goes to the playcaller for sticking with those kinds of concepts knowing that the Broncos defenders had rabies.

There was a point in the 2nd half where Carolina had 6 straight drives with at least one penalty. They just killed themselves in the down and distance with those because they usually came on 2nd down and made it 2nd and 10+.

I feel like that Ginn throwback play was in the 2nd quarter. I can't remember exactly, but for some reason I'm thinking it was earlier in the game. And I remember really liking the call, but it was a good play by the backside DE to hold Cam in the backfield, because that side of the field was wide open.

You're right, it was the 2nd quarter. Had the timeline messed up. Still hated that call though. No need for it on the plus side of the 50.
