    Re: 2017 Transaction Thread

    Jets release CB Darrelle Revis.

He had maybe the highest peak of any cornerback of the past decade - though Richard Sherman will surely argue against that - but I think his time in the NFL may be up. Can't play on the outside anymore and I'm not sure he'd hold up as a safety, he's never struck me as a particularly physical player.

A bit late, but to add to your point: the other half of this discussion is that some team has to want to trade for Tony Romo in order for the Cowboys to, y'know, trade Tony Romo. If no team wants to trade for Romo, then the hypothetical benefit to the Cowboys is non-existant.

Last I heard, Denver was interested in bringing in Romo, but only as a free agent. Presumably, his age, salary, and injury history are all minimizing his trade value.

I think it all depends on how fast Peterson runs at this point. Blount fumbles and isn't a good receiver either and he isn't even in the same galaxy as AP IF Peterson still has some breakaway speed. That being said, he probably won't take the paycut. But he would be great for a team that needs some explosiveness (which is why GB makes sense too).

          Re: 2017 Transaction Thread

When free agency begins this week, there will be contracts that make people rub their eyes and wonder if they had one drink too many last night.

And one of them figures to be for Buccaneers backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the expectation among sources at the Scouting Combine was that Glennon’s next deal would come in around the $14 million to $15 million per year range.

That sounds ridiculous on its face, primarily because Mike Glennon.

He has five starts since his 2013 rookie season when he was thrown into the fire, and none in the last two seasons. He’s only attempted 11 passes in the last two years while sitting behind Jameis Winston. But his market figures to be strong because he’s available without having to trade anything away or use a draft pick, and the Bears and Jets have already been mentioned as possible destinations.

And while the number causes you to reach for another cup of coffee and might give you flashbacks to Osweilerian excess, it’s really not that out of line.

There are 13 quarterbacks with deals averaging more than $20 million a year, and nine more making $16 million a year or more (taking you down to the Andy Dalton/Alex Smith/Sam Bradford neighborhood).

So while it’s a big number, especially for a Mike Glennon, it’s not out of line for a bottom-third of the league starter. And frankly, if you’re spending that kind of money on a Mike Glennon, that’s probably what the team around him dictates he’s going to be.
Also sounding like DeSean Jackson will be signing a new contract on the first day of FA with Washington and Tampa Bay among the reported teams interested in him.

Kaepernick would be the LAST person I would expect to sign in Buffalo for reasons that do and don't have anything to do with Football.

Still think they should keep Tyrod.

My only issue is why let him walk in the first place, plus, he lost his starters job last season.

Presumably, Green Bay wasn't going to pay House was Jacksonville did (4yr / $24M / $10M gtd). That's a lot of money for a player who at the time had two career interceptions (not that INTs are everything for a CB, I'm using it as a proxy here admittedly) and moreover 14 career starts in 64 possible regular season games.

On top of that Green Bay had a number of young (if unproven) players at the same position in Damarious Randall, Micah Hyde, Quinten Rollins, and Ladarius Gunter, on top of expecting Sam Shields to be the top dog in the secondary at the time.

                          Can't pay everyone.

True, I'm just not the Devon House fan in the first place, especially after being demoted from starter status.

If Hyde walks, I'd rather pay Hyde vs House.

Of all the Packers' unrestricted free agents, if it were my decision to make and I could only bring one back, it'd be Micah Hyde. He's got position versatility few players in the league on either side of the ball can match.
