"Sources: Miami is working on a deal with 49ers’ OC Mike McDaniel to be their next head coach."

Which means it's down to Texans and Saints.

        Re: 2022 Offseason Thread

My comments are more like Hue was going to pick up the ball from Flores and run with it: "Flores may not prove it, but I (Hue) got the goods!" But now he is already saying he wasn't offered money. Disappointment more than anything.

        Now he is saying:

Former Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson clarified in an interview with CNN on Friday night that he was never paid to lose games, but evidence that team ownership and executives intended to lose during the 2016 and 2017 seasons "will come to light at the right time."

"No, I was never offered money like Brian [Flores] had mentioned," Jackson told CNN. "I think this is a totally different situation but has some similarities."

Former coach Hue Jackson said he never was directly paid by the Cleveland Browns to lose games, however he told CNN that evidence of the team's intent to lose "will come to light at the right time."
Lets see what distinction he is trying to make between "intending to lose" and tanking.

I think his stance is "look how bad our roster was those 2 year, how do you expect to win" and Browns dispute was that "in the third year, when the roster started to get better, he started off terrible and after we fired him, we went 5-3".

At this point, Flores need someone more credible than Hue.

But making a roster bad can (usually is) a part of tanking, so I don't how that gets us anywhere.

I get the impression that some people, not saying you illwill10, think that tanking is either illegal and/or not a strategy worth pursuing.

              I definitely agree with you.

I don't think "tanking" is the issue. Hell, tanking is accepted and is incentivized. Any time there are teams fighting for the #1 pick, it's a "bad thing" when they win lol. Heck Eagles "tanked" that final Washington game to ensure they get a better pick lol. But tanking always feel more of a owner/front office thing. It doesn't benefit coaches because records affect contracts and could be used against them. It is more accepted NBA than NFL. "Tanking" is okay, until you start getting "talented player". Then the expectations are raised.

I think the issue is more making intentional actions/requests to ensure games/seasons are lost. For example, forcing critical calls, substitutions, roster decisions, etc.

For me, I wouldn't want to see a draft lottery in the NFL.

"Texans are now in talks with their associate head coach and defensive coordinator Lovie Smith about potentially becoming their next head coach, sources tell me and @fieldyates"

They should be interviewing him within next 24 hours. It does feel awkward though. Feels like they know hiring McCown is a really bad look and Flores mentioned Texans treatment of Culley in the suit made him unlikely. It feels like the interview should have happened in the very beginning instead of continuing to be disfunctional

Awesome news about Lovie. Hopefully he can adapt to modern offenses because the Texans defense was not good this year but that defense needs a lot of talent to be successful. If he can somehow convince Watson to stay and then get that defense taking the ball away anything like his old Bears teams they’ll be fun to watch

Mike Lombardi always called him "Hue Headline" for his supposed way of always making it about himself. And I ignored it because Lombardi is a blowhard, but the way Jackson has awkwardly inserted himself into this story has me wondering.

I can definitely see that with Hue. I can remember back to Hard Knocks, he has that type of personality

But, the problem is that other minority coaches/candidates might not want to risk putting their names on it fear of sacrificing their own careers

Of course. A discrimination lawsuit is a career-killer in virtually any field, let alone one this insular. But Hue has already had to walk back his allegations. Were I Flores or another man looking to join, I'd worry that he is going to undermine the credibility of your claims.

Whenever someone is trying to make a significant change, many people are going to look for any reason to disregard the messenger. I'm not going to name any names to avoid derailing the thread, but look at the inconsequential bull**** that gets brought up to undermine activists.

this screams as Houston trying to help the NFL out on this lawsuit. Whether NFL asked them to do this behind closed doors to help out or not this is what i thought as soon as this news dropped. How do you go from McCown is tgeir guy to the next day, Lovie cones out of nowhere and is their coach? Something smells fishy here. and word is hes bringing McCown on his staff. Is Lovie another sacrificial lamb and is fired next off season?
