    Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread

So now we're back to where we were three years ago.

Oh well, it's good to see them do something. Moose is better than colbert/jarrett/carter. I still want Crumpler.

I really like the offseason moves so far for Carolina.

Re-signing Travelle Wharton and Damione Lewis.

      Re-signed S Chris Harris.

      Franchising Jordan Gross.

Releasing Dan Morgan, Mike Wahle and DeShaun Foster.

Today signed RB Alex Haynes and S CJ Wilson to 1 year deals.

Re-signed WR Mushin Muhammad and cutting QB disaster David Carr.

      On other notes :

I've been reading that Carolina may have dropped out of the bidding for Alge Crumpler.

Also Panthers GM Marty Hurney has been quoted as saying that most of the key additions this year will come from the draft in April, as opposed to overspending in free agency.

I've seen mock drafts with Carolina taking everyone from Louisville QB Brian Brohm to UNC DT Kentwan Balmer.

Balmer is from the town next door to me. I'm shocked he's moved into the top 10. He was solid, but not that productive w/UNC. Mind-boggling.

I read an article that said the Panthers are hopeful jarrett will win the other starting slot next to Smith. The guy played so little, I can't even remember his jersey number. What in the world would make them think the guy is going to become a starter? Man, this is one stupid front office.

I figured the Panthers would be too stupid to go after Crumpler. They filled the TE slot on this team w/the urgency you'd expect in trying to find a place kick holder.

I agree, Jarrett was a complete disaster last year, he wasn't ready to be an NFL player. However, he was a 2nd round pick and it is far too early to give up on him. He has good size for a WR and probably just needs the mental side of his game to mature so he can show his physical abilities. I'd like to see Drew Carter back for atleast 1 more year.

On Crumpler, he is 30 years old and was hurt last year. There is really no reason to break the bank on him, especially with 6 other teams reportedly bidding on him. He's probably on the downside of his career, the Falcons of all teams cut him.

Jeff King is coming into his 3rd season from Virginia Tech and TE Dante Rosario will be in his 2nd season. Now I'm not saying that Carolina doesn't need an upgrade, but it's not like it is a critical priority either.

Available unrestricted free agent TEs (besides Crumpler) this off-season still include -

TE Eric Johnson - had 48 rec w/ NO last year.

TE Bubba Franks - solid veteran TE w/ GB.

TE Marcus Pollard - capable TE w/ IND, DET, and SEA.

TE Bo Scaife - had a breakout year w/ Tennessee last year.

TE Ben Troupe - another capable TE from Tennessee.

TE Ben Utecht - former Colt had 31 catches last season.

All I'm saying is, if we don't sign Crumpler, all hope is not lost for that position.

I don't remember much about Balmer at all. 13th pick is too early for him imo.

well it's nice to have moose back, since he probably would have stayed here if the bears hadn't waved tons of money in his face after his awesome year.

At the very least, he'll be the veteran mentor to a few WR's that have sucked *** bad.

Just read that Carolina re-signed DB Dante Wesley to a 2 year deal to be a nickel/dime back. Good signing IMO, becuase he knows the system and has contributed here before. Also read that Carolina has re-signed LB Na'il Diggs too, although that might be old news to some.

Moose would have stayed if the Panthers wanted to pay him instead of Dan Morguean.

Well a ton of solid FA are off the board now and Carolina still hasn't done much of anything. When they released so many players, traded Jenkins, and didn't resign some guys, they freed up a load of cash. So what are they planning to do with it? We need all the help we can get and they are just sitting back and letting everyone else go for some solid starters at the positions we need. WTF Hurney.

That's why they should have fired everyone @ the top. They make terrible personel decisions. They sign the wrong players, cut the wrong players, draft the wrong players, play the wrong players. I sense a trend.

well the panthers don't really spend big for anyone. They've waited on peppers now too. If he has a big pro bowl year, he's gone, just like moose was.

The only two possibilities are that the Panthers give him a big deal and he gets 3 sacks a year, or he goes to another team and puts up 15 sacks a year.

I feel like the Panthers would have been playoff-bound if Delhomme did not get injured.

Matt Moore was impressive towards the end of the year, though. Could there be some controversy over who gets the starting job next year?
