    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

The only way Dumervil stays is if D. Smith does what he did for T.O. back in 2004.

I don't even know how I want this to play out. I guess I'm okay with either way. Like I said earlier, I thought 8M was too high. I'm very curious to see what he would get if another team signs him. 5 to 6M sounds about right.

This whole thing just sounds highly questionable. Multi-million dollar deal. Dumervil nor his agent is in Denver. Fax machines?

Sorry for not choosing my words more carefully through my anger.Actually not that they would be unaware moreso that it didn't serve either side well that it would be taken down to the wire like that.Obviously they had an agreeable number but blew it based on the timeframe.Neither side wins.

I just heard Jim Miller say that all Denver has to do is re-do his deal and submit it to the league. He didn't say anything about the cap hit. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's that simple or they would have done it.

My understanding is that once they cut him, there is 5M in dead money.

Dumervil supposedly wants to play for Miami because he's from there but the interest doesn't seem to be mutual plus there's conflicting reports as to how much interest there is out there for him.I highly doubt he would get an offer of more than 6 per .

That's what makes what happened bad for both.If his rep was intent on thinking the team was going to budge late he was highly delusional that the market dictated any more than 8 by what was happening with other comparables.

Well, Dumervil just fired his agent, so now everyone has lost on this. That being said, I'd say the Broncos lost the least.

Gary Miller from a Denver local news affiliate just stated that Denver is going to move on from Dumervil as per a source close to the situation. Patriots, Ravens, and Titans are all interested in him.

                Very quiet here...

Dumervil "underwhealmed" by Denver's latest offer which makes it seem like Denver may move on. Freeney and Abraham have scheduled visits with the Broncos tonight and tomorrow.

Who does everyone want to see in a Broncos uniform next year if not Doom:
                Freeney
                Abraham
                Osi
                None of the above

I'd take all of the above over Dumervil.

I think it's funny how it was reported that Dumervil was not pleased with Denver's latest offer. I can't see them resigning him. Denver's brass will always see that 5M in dead money as part of Dumervil's deal.

Didn't Dumervil already test the market and find that 8 million is more than any other team will give him? I really don't know what he is expecting at this point, and I think that he is lucky for Denver even trying to sign him again after the fax fiasco.

That being said, I like all three of the candidates listed, but I do worry about production by Abraham (who will be 35 in May) and Freeney (33 y/o). I feel like Osi at 29 is the best option and who has the most upside.

The kicker is that now the Broncos are likely offering around 4-5 million to offset the salary cap hit. The 8 million dollar offer is long gone.

Dumervil was presumably offered a 3 year deal that would've been backloaded. If he still wants to dwell on being 'underwhelmed' I would just move on.

I've always been a big Dwight Freeney fan so my bias would be there. The scouts,Inc. grading system had Freeney at 83,Dumervil-82,Abraham-80,and Umenyiora at 78.I look at all of them being guys, when healthy ,get you 10-12 sacks and are liabilities against the run.Health and age are probably the only difference.

Agreed... the Broncos8M ship sailed away with Dumervil's rotary phone long ago. I doubt anyone would even give him 6M at this point. Guessing Denver's new offer is on par with what they will offer any of the other 3 candidates.

That is interesting stat from Scouts Inc. I would be just fine with any of the 3 other candidates, and Freeney most likely is Denver's plan B, and will be a situational pass rusher in rotation with Ayers (whom is better in the Base D run support).

Anyone here want to see Denver pursue Urlacher ?

Dumvil has go to be absolutely kicking himself that he didn't get that offer sheet in the moment he received it. 8M looks pretty sweet right about now.

I still believe that Dumervil will become less effective faster than other players simply because of his size. He relies almost purely on speed, and once that starts to go....

Not me. With that, all I see is shades of Romanowski constantly getting beat in his later years. All it takes is being a step late. Stay with the younger guys.

The defense isn't that far off. Besides, they don't have to be great. If they can play anywhere near the level they played at last year, they will be fine.

My problem with Dumervil has always been that this should've been the year he dominated. With opposing offensive lines trying to figure out how to contain Miller, if Dumervil were really worth his salt he would've been able to just light it up. Instead, we saw him struggle one on one against mediocre tackles and become a problem against the run.

This is why I scratch my head when I hear people talk about how Dumervil is some hot commodity. If the Ravens want him, then go for it. I'd rather have Dwight Freeney. Yes, he's not what he once was. But in his prime, he was ruining offensive linemen with little help. In a defense where Miller is pulling the attention, I'd expect Freeney to be able to work some magic. Plus, Freeney is bigger than Dumervil, so he's not such a liability against the run.

I wish we'd just part ways with Dumervil entirely. He'll end up going to a Ravens team that lacks Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, and we'll never hear about him again.

Concerning Brian Urlacher, I don't want him here. He'll be the same liability that we had last year: a linebacker who can't cover tight ends. He's too old, too slow, and just a name at this point. That's why the Bears let him go. Urlacher hasn't come to grips with the fact that he's not a dominate linebacker anymore. He's more of a name at this point, someone to sign for leadership only. Perhaps a team that really needs a run-stopping linebacker could use him. But not us.
