    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

Apparently, the Broncos did zero gameplanning against the Seahawks, while the Seahawks gameplanned against the Broncos.

That being said, the fumbles are inexcusable. Special teams was mediocre. Our defense better start generating a pass rush. Ronnie Hillman needs to be a change-of-pace RB only.

And yes, I really hope that game served as a wake up call to the Broncos that they have to go out and earn their wins. Otherwise, we're going to be the NFL's biggest disappointment this year. One bright spot was Julius Thomas. Despite his fumble, he's finally looking to be the player that was hoped from him.

      Not according to Woody Paige...

At this point, I would tend to agree with you. I like Paige, but I had a had time seeing the lines he was trying to draw here. There seems to be a huge drop-off from the starters at most positions.

One thing is for sure... if Manning goes down, that's it.

That's what I want, but Hillman's fumble may have been negated by the fact that Ball allowed Manning to get leveled.

Moreno's ability to pass protect may end up being the most valuable aspect of all of them.

          And things keep getting better....

Miller suspended for not for four games, but for six. Nice.

So... sounds like a suspension under stage 2? I wonder if this puts him at phase 3 and just one or two violations from an actual ban? Some crazy stuff for such a good player.

My guess would be that he got six games because he decided to appeal AND he got arrested a week earlier for an unrelated incident.

La Canfora says that the 6 might be a bargain, and that due to history or something w/ his case he could have missed half the season.

                  Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

I think the hardest thing about this pre-season for me is that there aren't very many bright spots so far. Granted, Manning is always bright and without him we could pretty much set up for a 6 win year (maybe). But even players we've signed via free agency to be impact players you don't hear anything about them unless they're hurt. Has anyone heard a thing about Shaun Phillips (minus that TD he scored against SF). Terrence Knighton? Anyone? Jammer?

I don't even think that I've even heard Sylvester Williams name called.

                  Where did Nacho go?

I'll believe in Julius Thomas when I see it. Everyone has been pumping up that kid for years now and he hasn't done anything. He's another Mario Fanin that's lasted a bit longer.

I'm sure this is all a bit of an over-reaction but for the love of god...show me something that tells me that this team is a Super Bowl contender. Like it or not, I don't think great teams get jumped like that in pre-season.

Interesting how Moreno has gone from barely making the team (last year) to being a needed pass-block back. As I've said, Moreno would've been our franchise star RB if he could've stayed healthy. The kid has the talent, it's all there. He just cannot stay on the field. I'm impressed he runs as well as he does, considering the amount of time he's spent rehabbing. At this point, his knees must be incredibly battered. It goes to show that if you have one much-needed talent, there's a place for you. A lot of running backs can go in and give 2.8 - 3.0 ypc. Being able to go in and give solid pass-blocking in the backfield is what gets you in on 3rd down.

Which is rather critical to the Broncos. It's not just a "well, it'd be nice if..." scenario. The Broncos can't work out of a three-WR set if the RB cannot be trusted to pick up blitzes. The Broncos had to switch to a two-TE set after Manning got crushed when M. Ball missed an assignment.

DRC and Shaun Phillips may end up as our two biggest signings this year. As seems to be customary, Bailey is hobbled at the start of the year. He's really losing his speed, IMO. Phillips is going to have to give us a lil' more of his previous performances to make up for Von Miller. Otherwise, we'll get no pass rush, and a rather young secondary is going to get eaten alive. Especially if Del Rio has to start blitzing LBs to create pressure.

I really like the move of placing Woodyard at MLB, especially given the current options.

I doubt this is anything. The article said there were over 100 potential witnessess.
                          Football: Denver Broncos
                          Baseball: Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs

Woodyard anywhere is a good move. Yeah, I like Woodyard. He'll be a good match up with TE's over the middle, and he has the wits to direct the front seven. The only question might be his size, in run-defense. But I think he can overcome that. Our issue, last year, was our MLB getting roasted by TEs. Joe Mays?

Edit: Having a lil' back and forth with Tom Nalen on Twitter right now about some of it.

Edit: Yeah, Tom Nalen is basically saying the same thing. Huge upgrade in pass protection, but very light in the running game. Curious to see how Woodyard performs.

I thought about Woodyard in the middle when Phillips was signed to get him on the field more being that Bradley as expected was an injury waiting to happen and Irving apparently isn't deemed as the answer.

Peyton will just have to outscore the opponent like he did in Indy for much of his time until we get to full strength. In the Colts Superbowl season their defense was hideous for much of the season.I remember seeing J'ville run for like 350 on them with Fred Taylor and MJD.Then Bob Sanders was actually healthy for a stretch and the defense came together at the right time.

Miller's suspension will obviously hurt the Broncos, but part of me is glad he got 6 games. It's almost funny. His immaturity that got him into this mess along with his arrogance of 'I did nothing wrong', lead him to believe all of this would be overturned with an appeal. Not only was it not overturned, two more games got tacked on.

At this point....whatever. It bothers me most that Miller was supposed to be one of Denver's crown jewels, but he's been revealing himself in a totally different light. I'm simply disappointed. Now he is one more infraction away from being suspended for a year, possibly even banished from the league. Given his track record, how confident can you be that he will stay on the straight and narrow?

Miller himself guaranteed a Broncos' Super Bowl victory back in March. He has a curious way of trying to make that happen.

It's time to wake up, kid, or you are going to have a lot of time to devote to your chickens.
