    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

Lance Ball is out. I am not sure about JJ's practice squad eligibility. I think it's used up. Given his lack of playing time this year, I was actually surprised to see they announced Lance Ball getting cut first. Maybe JJ does have one more year left....

I would have liked to have seen more of Robinson to see what he could do, but there is simply no room. It will be interesting to see if King sticks.

What about the situation with Bolden and Jammer? Is there room for both? how about Dysert? Those are the biggest question marks that I see.

The Lance Ball cut was definitely overdue. He seems like a very nice guy and also seems very articulate and bright, I hope his NFL career isn't over, but he was just isn't "special." When they draft a RB in the first three rounds two years in a row, the writing is on the wall as far as depth guys at that position go.

Honestly, I don't see why Jacob Hester is on the roster either. I think if you have a guy on your roster that you can drop and nobody else is gonna pick up, you should probably just go ahead and drop him. He's a low RB or a small FB, or a really bad slot WR, or...I mean, I dunno, what is he?

I have my eyes glued to the secondary. Very interesting decisions to be made there. I thought Jammer was dead to rights, but maybe he might find a way to stick around. That old saying tho, "if you're playing in the fourth quarter of the fourth pre-season game, keep that bag packed."

I guess Dysert's sticking because they don't think he'd pass through waivers.

Jammer may stick around for now because of the unsureness of Champ's injury. His versatility may be useful right now.

I didn't notice that we picked up Paris Lemon for depth in the middle.Didn't get a chance to see the game the other night.

Who will be the fifth receiver?

        I kinda like Hester's versatility,even though he's not a clear-cut position filler.If C.J. were healthy who knows,but I'd like to see more of him.

Certainly the defensive end position is something to look at after cuts are final.Need to scoop on the best one available.

Technically, Trindon Holliday is our fifth WR. DT, Decker, Welker, Caldwell, and Holliday. Plus four TEs to go along with them.

I'm really happy that Dysert made the roster. For a kid to come in, as a rookie, and make some of the plays and throws he did was impressive. I'm curious to see what he can become when given some tutelage and a season to grow. In the 4th game, he looked poised and under control of the offense. I'd imagine he'll spend the season running the practice squad. But he looked good. And I like that we kept him. As much as I like Osweiler, and I think he's coming along, it's good to find another young QB that could develop and push Osweiler. I'm sure Elway understands that there is the possibility that Osweiler doesn't pan out. And even if he does, you've now developed a young QB who can give you a solid backup, or good trade bait.

I'm glad we kept CJ Anderson. I was excited when I saw what he could do. He has a lot of upside. Also glad Jammer was kept. His veteran leadership and knowledge on the field will carry a premium value. And it seems like Champ is always hobbled, anymore.

And yes, obviously some of those who made the cut this weekend may not survive the next week if some solid players hit the market and we look to pick them up. We're pretty thin on the offensive and defensive lines. Not that I think we should've kept the guys we cut. CJ Davis, Painter, etc., they couldn't block anybody. We were better off just cutting them and freeing ourselves of the cap space.

Lance Ball and Jeremiah Johnson's cuts are about upside, IMO. Both guys have been around, and they're known commodities. They're not going to get any better. We were better off keeping CJ Anderson, who has potential and upside, than Lance Ball and JJ. Great guys, hard workers, but they won't give you any more than what we saw. We have enough of those type of backs.

If I recall, Omar Bolden was moved to safety, and Jammer back to cornerback. I don't feel like Bolden was really doing what he was supposed to as a CB. He was touted as a ballhawk, etc coming out of the draft. But he was injured, and I wonder if that took a step away from him. Perhaps at safety, he'll have that opportunity to see the plays in front of him and make a play on the ball. Jammer's experience at CB will serve him well. The move, IMO, was more to help Bolden than it was to do with Jammer. Jammer is fine in either position.

Kayvon Webster is someone I could see moving to safety. The guy has a knack for hitting, and he'd be great in run-defense with that kind of attack. He just needs to understand that you can't body slam guys. His first personal foul was bogus; a clean hit.

Plus, Julius Thomas will be labeled a TE but he will mainly be used as a wideout in spread formations. His blocking is nowhere near where it needs to be as a full time tight end.

In other news, I saw that Richard Quinn got cut again today from whatever team had him. What a waste of a trade and pick he turned out to be.

Exactly. J.Thomas has that Shannon Sharpe quality to the position. Good receiver, can't block.

So how are you guys feeling rolling into the season? Hillman was announced as the starter. Not crazy about that.

To be honest, I don't feel nearly as good about this team as I did back in June. There are still quite a few questions still left unanswered. I believe they'll become a better football team as the year progresses, but....

I can't imagine a loss on Thursday, but that's also what I thought back in January when the Ravens came to town.

I have to imagine Hillman will be on a pretty short leash

Many people I talk to, especially people work with, still seem to think we're invincible for some reason. Baltimore ain't gonna just let us have it cuz they "owe us one," as one co worker told me about 20 minutes ago.

That's still a well coached team with talent on offense and a healthy Suggs

I expect a close win but maybe a sloppy loss that comes due to some stupid mistake

I said it in the game thread down there but my only thought right now on them is that I'm not nearly as confident with them as I should be right now.

I really like Hillman, but not as a feature back.

                        Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

I feel good about our offense. I feel skeptical about our defense. We never really saw the defense take control. It felt like a Greg Robinson "bend don't break" kind of mentality. A lot of that stems from a poor 4-man rush up front. Those guys were not getting it done. Now, to be fair, last year we did a LOT of 5 man pressure with Von Miller, so we could see that again with Shaun Phillips blitzing. But we never saw it in preseason. I don't know if Del Rio didn't want to tip his hand, or what, but I really hope our defense is ready.

What I hope happens is that our offense takes off, and allows our defense to just pass rush. That'd be great. I dunno. In the end, win or lose, I just want our Broncos to show that they're ready. I don't want to see bits and pieces, etc. I want to see a working machine that is ready to play. Even if we lose.

I always want to win. But I want is to see our team run smoothly and perform like a Super Bowl contender. If we lose, I'll be grumpy for a week and half about it. But if we lay an egg, I'll be pretty concerned. If we go out, look like a team that can win the Super Bowl, and simply lose a close game, I'll just be grumpy. But I won't be concerned. If we win a crappy game, my POV will be: "well, we stole one, but yeesh."

I think, in the grand scheme of things, one win won't mean as much as coming out of the gate as a well-oiled machine. If we come out and our whole team sputters and we win some on bogus play 7 - 6, I'm going to be pretty concerned about our team. If we go out, play solid football all around, and lose a tight game 21 - 24, I can say "wow, a tweak or two and we win this game." We're supposed to be this great Super Bowl favorite. Let's look like it.

So, the fan of me wants to win regardless. The analytical side of me wants to see a team that is primed to run the gamut and storm into the playoffs. Remember my POV on Tebow when we were winning? :P

                              Let's not talk about Tebow....

I totally get what you are saying, but I still want the W any way we can get it. I'm not expecting them to look like a SB team yet. I was kind of expecting that in the preseason and they looked, well....off. I really thought things would look a little tighter.

I had to chuckle a bit when Peyton was interviewed during the Rams game and he said that they definitely don't want to peak to soon. They aren't in danger of that right now! Barring injuries, I know they will get stronger as the season progresses, regardless of how badly they may play on Thursday.

Denver's strongest opponent tends to be themselves. That's my biggest concern...and Ronnie Hillman, the linebackers, pressure from the d-line, Champ Bailey, Trindon Holliday, no Von Miller, kick coverage..... Ugh.
