Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
So.
I have no problem admitting when I am wrong.
Over the last couple years I wrote about how much I disliked the choice to draft Brock Osweiler. I blasted Elway for it pretty harshly.
Do two games define a career? No.
Does the kid look good? Yeah, the kid looks great IMO.
He's a decent athlete, he is deceptively smooth on the play fake, and he can sling it. I mean he throws heat. Dis he miss on a couple throws today? Yeah he was a little off target a few times. Does he take big sacks? Yeah, he has a couple times so far. Did he make some next level "big boy throws" in the fourth quarter and on to help us beat the patriots? Yeah, he sure as heck did. He's also won me over with his cool and collected demeanor, his comradery with his teammates, and his classy interview responses. Top notch, so far.
Unless he has a total meltdown, I don't see how you can go back to Peyton after seeing what a strong arm qb can do with our offense. I'm sorry, Peyton is a legend, sure, but I've seen that story 3x already. I've seen Manning against Baltimore. I've seen Manning against the Seahawks. I've seen Manning against the Colts. I've seen the smartest quarterback of all time get beat by smart defenses because he just can't throw the ball anymore. I don't want to see it again. I want the kid with the cannon.
Unless Brock goes Ryan Leaf on us, I don't see how you go back to Manning this year, and I'm sorry but there is no next year. No way you pay manning 17 mill next year.
They have to pay Brock (a lot more than they would have had to now) and Miller. The future is Osweiler.
Manning will start again this year. My guess is the game after the game in Pittsburgh and he will be the QB in the playoffs and that's not to say that's what I want.
They tried to trade him in the offseason and I think we understand now why Kubiak didn't want to run his offense with Manning.
To be fair to you Jared (on blasting the pick) he isn't a QB who would fair well in a Manning offense so at the time you weren't that far off base (though I did still love the pick). This is Elway's guy.
He does however work great in Kubiak's offense. I posted here on OS and still say I wish Manning would have retired while fully admitting I had no idea how bad Manning would be. It's hard to watch but when he's healthy there's a decent chance they will put him back in because, well, he's Manning.
All that said, the only hope we have to see Brock ride this season out is the fact that both sides know they will part this offseason one way or the other and they may not be as worried about severing the relationship.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I've lived with plantar fasciitis, it doesn't go away easily. And he has a partial tear. I have trouble believing Manning can get to a point where he is capable of playing and be a benefit to the team.
But let's assume he does, in two weeks time. He will have missed almost a month of playing. Let's also assume Osweiler continues with his current trend. I'm not sure you can go back to Manning. By that point, the team will have gained timing with Osweiler and adjusted to his play. Moreover, it's clear that the offense is exactly what Kubiak wants with Brock. I don't see how Manning can come in, get the reps needed, and be ready to play December football. But hey, I've been wrong before!
The future is Osweiler, that's for sure. Either way, the cards are all lined up perfectly. You have a perfect reason to keep Manning on the side line that will not cause controversy. You have a young promising QB who is in the last year of his contract and looks to cash in during the off-season. Meanwhile, the Broncos MUST find out whether Osweiler is the future or if they need to spend a high draft pick on a QB. You simply cannot wait. Osweiler, thus far, has proven he won't lose us the game and is capable of running Kub's offense. There will be growing pains, but I have problems believing Manning, even without the foot issue, would've won that game last night. He wouldn't have lined up the way Osweiler did, he would've tried to throw the ball 70% of the time or run it from the Pistol.
Manning is simply the antithesis to what Kubiak wants. The play-calling and execution is apparent. Kubiak has done his best to put on the right face and say the right things. But now he has the opportunity he needs. Kubiak and Elway know what's up. I won't be surprised if Manning goes back in, but what an opportunity for Kubiak to simply say "Manning isn't healthy yet" and allow Osweiler to keep playing.
I also feel like, if Manning went back in, it'd actually damage the team's morale. Strange as that sounds, it's been clear to my homer eyes that the team has rallied around Brock and has new energy. It's also clear that Osweiler spent his time on the bench well.Last edited by Broncos86; 11-30-2015, 08:12 PM.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I agree with everything you said. My preference would be to never see Manning dress up in anything other than coaches clothes the rest of the year. I've liked Brock since seeing him in preseason game but am even more impressed with him seeing him against first team defenses.
I guess what I was saying without saying is I think if Manning goes to Kubiak and Elway and says I'm ready to play they have a very difficult time saying no. It's not a Jake Plummer situation. There's a lot more to this scenario.
EDIT: I very much hope I'm wrong.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I like him. And he gets to learn from the best. The transition from college can be tough, but I think he's growing into it.
I just want him to be smart, not get in the drug program, and not take stupid roughing the passer penalties like some other players.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
We're just so young. The margin of error is small for olinemen. And we keep dealing with injuries. Lots of learning going on for people. Nice that we can win and learn at the same time. Brock didn't win the game, but he didn't lose it either.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Brock made two bad passes today, the others were home run swings he just missed on. Considering that for a "not his best game" kinda performance he still did decent, I consider it another step in the right direction.
Love this team when our run game is going and our defense is just teeing off on people."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
The drops on top of absolutely unacceptably poor o line play make me feel like Brock is playing pretty well today and just getting no help. Taking a sack in end zone can't happen tho
Down by 3 with 6 minutes left, weird game. Hope we Pull it out"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
The drops were painful, especially since they were pro bowl players making the drops. You pay those guys to make plays when you need them.
Our team seems to ebb and flow with the young offensive line. When they open holes for the RBs, suddenly we're in 3rd and short and we can do whatever. Suddenly, Osweiler can run play-action, gets the protection needed, and we shine.
Just a young line that has had zero consistency throughout the season. A lot of learning going on. That unit will basically decide whether we're a strong team in the post-season. It won't matter who our QB is if they cannot do their job.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I feel like, at this point of the season, we're simply not a team that is a true contender in the post-season. We'll get there, but we're going to get bounced out quickly.
We're just too young and inexperienced at key positions. Our defense is rock-solid, but you can't expect them to keep up when the offense goes 3 and out constantly. It wears down the defense too much, and the league is geared towards offenses.
Our offensive line is beat up and shoddy. There's a real lack of experience to go along with inconsistency. The issue here is that everything our offense does is predicated on running the ball. The strange thing is that earlier in the year, this wasn't the case because the offense Manning was running didn't necessarily need the running game. He was perfectly happy playing from shotgun and passing all game long.
The offense yesterday, with Brock under center, needs the running game to work in order for the passing to click. The moment the offensive line stops opening holes, the defense can begin to focus in on defending the pass. With an inexperienced line and QB, that's a nightmare situation.
At this stage, in my head, the rest of the season is about getting our younger players the experience needed to grow while learning if they're a long-term solution. This includes Osweiler.
All that being said, Osweiler is having X-rays on his left shoulder. While not expected to be serious, we may very well be seeing Trevor Siemien start. The problem here is that we NEED to know if Osweiler is the guy. He's going to want to be paid after this season, and I just don't know if he's at a point where, going into his 5th season, you consider him a solid candidate. Perhaps you sign him as the starter, and Manning retires (freeing a crap-ton of cap room), but I can't help but feel that Elway looks to draft a QB early.Last edited by Broncos86; 12-21-2015, 03:27 PM.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
He'll just occupy Manning's current cap space if he has to be franchised, that's going to be a ~$19m+ salary under the tag which will serve as the starting point for negotiations.
Some big decisions and moves to be made for sure.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
So I am reading stuff on social media from Broncos "insiders" saying Elway might got re-sign Oz. Speculation is he is going to get offers in the 14-15 mil a year range and rather than do that Elway will try to get Manning to take a pay cut and look to the draft while going after guys like Malik Jackson and our other FAs"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

My off-the-wall guess? Robert Griffin III. He'll be released, will be cheap, and grew up a huge Broncos fan. He may be damaged goods, but he can be a pocket passer and can do the play action bootleg offense very well.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.
