    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

This coming draft I'd like to see us focus either on a CB or MLB for our first round. Secondary in general with Bly and Bailey not having the endless life. Nate Webster is a fix-it for now and he's 8 years in the pros.

Denver is 9½ favorite over KC. I guess being at Arrowhead cut down the spread.

Edit- Forgot, Nalen went on the IR. I have a feeling he'll retire this offseason

A few time but then he went with his attempt to scheme zone coverages but they didnt work. Huard had flashes of people in front of him but it wasnt significant. Couldn't even stop the run again so why not blitz?

28 rushes for LJ, you'd think the gameplan would be to have 8 man fronts and blitz heavy. Our dline still getting shoved around like pillows

Edit- we have Tampa and Jacksonville at home, then go to NE before our bye, should be interesting if we come away with a win in the next 3.

Beating a dead horse. There were a couple of blitzes early, and I was getting excited, but they stopped for some reason. With that quick linebacking corp, should be blitzing from somewhere every play. For instance, Wilbon was coming on the long Johnson run, but he didn't break down and overran his gap, Johnson was gone. How quick he came throught the gap. I am sorry, but my original prediction of 6-10 will definitely come about if this defense doesn't step up NOW!

My prediction of 8-8 still stands but Slowik can find ways to ruin it. Cutler looked like 2006 yesterday so maybe that was his one throw away game.

Is it me or is Boss Bailey really sensitive and waving to get off the field with some limp or injury?

Well, what can you say. Shanahan always stays positive, but once I would love for him to say something like, "Once the DLine stops being *******, you will see the defense improve." Or responding to Cutler forcing the ball to Marshall, "This week we will try to get Jay's head out of his ***, so he should be better this week."

In support of Cutler, I remember Elway getting accused of forcing the ball to Sharpe or Rod Smith. Cutler is a dandy, he will be fine.

Spencer Larsen's hit on the kickoff. Hopefully he gets a look at for LB next offseason unless we really need a FB.

Not sure why but whenever I copy and paste the embeded code from the box to here it wont show up like everyone elses.

The best Broncos fan site on the web has a fantastic take after this last week: http://www.milehighreport.com/2008/9...-the-denver-br

It's time to take an honest self evaluation. There are a lot of good things to take comfort in if you are a Broncos fan. There are also some things that need to be faced that should keep you awake at night. I want to look at both.
Coming from a coach's perspective, folks shouldn't panic over one game. On the other hand, folks shouldn't get too excited over the 3-0 mark we were at before the KC loss. What we have on our hands is a very, very good team that has some terrible flaws. Yes, we beat SD and NO, but the games were close enough to be decided by a two point conversion and missed FGs. We beat Oakland, but that's not much to brag about. We also lost to KC, and that's a concern.
We'll look at what can be adjusted for and what probably can't, and where this puts the team as it continues The Quest.
                      Read on...
If you read the article, I agree with everything he says and even learned a thing or 2 about what went wrong.

Nice post. The Broncos this year remind me of the earlier version of the Colts pre-SB ring. Great offense, horrible defense

The run game for us really needs to pick up. We never build on it but yet use the bootlegs regardless. I think our ratio is a high 2 to 1 for pass/run? The oline has been great despite having 2 rookies (Harris counts imo) on the corners, we get alot of time in the pocket.

3-3-5 / Nickel really bugs me when we cant get pressure. Here's to hoping Slowik takes criticism and adjusts the defense for the remainder of the week. If anything, make halftime adjustments; not into the zone, lets hope no big plays happen.

That article pretty much sums up my feelings and I agree avr that the Broncos remind me of the pre-SB Colts. The reality is that the Broncos could easily be 1-3 as opposed to 3-1. Until the defense starts to play better, I agree that 8-8 is where the team will end up and anything better would be a bonus. The team needs to draft better on defense.

Heck, I drafted better for the Broncos on NFL Head Coach lol

Who is this Hoosierteacher? Very knowledgable and dead on with this points. I appreciated his comment that most of the problems facing this team is scheme not players. I agree except for the passrush, obviously.

Plus, this defense has become more zone oriented, but with the corners this team has, lock em down. I remember when the Broncos signed Dale Carter. At that time he was one of the best. I remember him complaining about being involved in too many zone schemes and not enough man. The present reminds me of that situation.

6-10 is still my prediction but I am the eternal pessimist. Let's hope not this record, they are actually a much better team than that.

My question is, why is it so hard to not play zone? Why doesn't Slowik blitz more? Does he not watch the games? Obviously what were doing on defense is not working. It would be nice if he trusted his players more...

Yeah, I know. Blitz baby blitz. Like I said in a few posts back. With the athletic backers that the Broncos have, they could create major havoc coming from everywhere.
