Disclaimer: I heard this on ESPN from Mort so take it for what it's worth:

Mortenson reported that had Mike Shanahan not been fired, he had planned on cutting Brandon Marshall after the Pro Bowl because of his high maintenance on and off the field.

I think I actually believe it.

Was Bob Slowik calling plays somehow despite being let go? I dont understand the playcalling decisions with defense on this team at times.

is the best way I can describe things right now.

Not bandwagon dumping, but Kyle Orton's decision making is slow. Plus, he looks like an old man getting his walker kicked out from under him when he tries to avoid a rush.

On the bright side, this was the first rodeo for this offensive unit. Hopefully they can get in better sync.

Wonder if Knowshon knows who he is yet?

Yeah good move not drafting Malalugua, he's not going to be very good.

Alphonso Smith, our phantom first rounder looked pretty impressive.

Defense was pretty salty, despite the amount of time they had to be on the field. It was nice of Nolan to stop blitzing. Don't want to get too many sacks in the first game.

Yep, he needs to do better than that.

I also thought his accuracy was affected by the glove. I know he isn't the most accurate QB, but from watching him in the PS compared to this game it looked like his accuracy was down a bit.

There is reason to believe they could get better. They showed signs of life in the 2nd half. They have to stop the penalties. Without the consecutive penalties on the last drive it is likely 9-7 when the Bengals score and a completely different scenario.

Agreed, looked very good today, hopefully he can keep that up.

Aside from the pitiful tackling, I was impressed with the defense.

And the best thing I took out of this game was the kick coverage. Haven't seen a special teams unit like that in years. I got so used to holding my breath every kickoff in the past.

Already calls for Brandstater to start. from the forums and game comments lol

Cleveland at home, should be interesting to see if Nolan brings pressure on the defense all game long instead of stopping randomly for a drive.

I second that as both a fantasy owner and a Broncos fan.

Unreal win today. But hey a win is a win.

Funny story after I posted a Preseason Review after the Bears game I received a friendly PM from a Bears fan who only have 6 posts on this board that read this. "Thanks for the QB. Have fun with Orton... LMAO!" Sweet redemption. Anyways Cutler will turn it around.

Still worried about the Broncos they did not look good at all.

I think this game showed what I thought this team would be. In most of the games, an improved defense, but struggles all around adjusting to new schemes and new teammates.

I will say it again, this offensive unit has not had too much time together in game situations. They will get better; there are some weapons on this team. Trying to paint a lovely pretty picture on this thing, hope it's working.

More so than Orton, but I hope Moreno carries a little more lead in the pencil than what he showed yesterday. He looks like nothing more than a glorified 3rd down back. He looks light and soft.

I can't remember who mentioned the disappointment with the tackling, but it got me to thinking and observing. That is an NFL thing. I don't think it is so much poor tackling but how difficult it is to tackle in this league. This is a league of studs.

I am a little more excited about the defense. They played with more gusto yesterday than they did all of last year.

Is McD saving Hillis? I would love to see more Hillis. I think that is one jersey I would like to have.

I agree with a lot of this, except Moreno.
I think the offense will be fine, you have to look at all these playmakers, and the OL is a good one, they will be better. I don't expect them to be averaging 25+ points a game, but they will have good showings.
Hillis didn't even have a carry if I recall. Cut freakin Lamont Jordan and give his workload to Hillis, geeze.

As for Moreno, gotta remember, he saw extremely limited game action so he isn't fully up to speed. He'll be a good back.

Hillis had 1 carry for 2 yards.

I know Moreno could be a good back, and I know he hasn't had a lot of carries. I just hope he starts running with some authority when he gets into game shape. There is no arguing against him running soft right now.

The obvious thought in my mind this early Monday morning? Just how good is this defense? 13 points in two weeks, stopping the run, consistent pressure on the QB, and actually creating turnovers. Four areas that were glaringly absent last year.

I don't know what to think of Cincinnati's performance against a good Packers defense. Cincinnati did move the ball on the Broncos but some dropped passes and such was their doom. But they went out and got after a defense that looked pretty salty the week before. Hard to really analyze the NFL on a multiple week scale, such a week by week league.

I am excited though. If this defense continues to play this way, Orton continues to improve with this offense, Marshall continues to become involved in the offense, and the running game stays strong, this team might not totally suck

I wanted to share a quick story. My principal went to the Broncos game Sunday; had seats right behind the Broncos bench. He was telling the story of the 2nd quarter and the tirades Marshall was throwing that wasn't shown on television. He also saw Marshall and Dennison get into it.

Still a very touchy situation there. McD is holding his ground. I bet he rides it out for the year and trades him in the off season. But I am wrong most of the time
