Re: Official New York Jets Thread

I would like to keep all 3 running backs. Jones is declining but he still was one of the top backs this year. Greene is great, but he hasn't proven he can handle the load. I'd like to give Jones, Greene, and Washington the ball, and we could have a beastly 3 back system.

Here are the key holes in the Jets that needs to be looked at:

    1) Pass Rushing DE

All the pressure we get is from LBs blitzing. When will we get some pressure from our DEs. Shaun Ellis is decent, but he isn't a great pass rusher that can get to the QB on 1 on 1 situations with ease.

    2) Other good CB

So we have Revis Island on one side, which is awesome. We rarely worry about #1 receivers. But look at what the Colts did. Pick on Sheppard and Lowery. How great would it be if we could get another Revis? That may be impossible, but another shut down corner would make this pass defense amazing. I was thinking Joe Haden from Florida if we could trade up in the draft. Would be pretty amazing with Haden and Revis.

A good pass rushing DE, a good #2 CB, and Jenkins back to help against the run and this defense can't be stopped. Now on offense, we don't have much holes to fill. We just need Sanchez to develop. A possibility on offense though is to draft Golden Tate if we don't trade up or anything like that. Tate is like Welker, so we could really have a nasty 3 WR set. Edwards as the deep threat, Cotchery and Tate as possession receivers. And don't forget about Keller.

So what do you think? Any ideas for this off-season?
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

It's a 3-4 defense though. The DE's aren't supposed to be great pass rushers. What they need is a good pass rushing OLB (someone in the Merriman/Harrison mold).

True, but our DE's are still very lacking. While they aren't suppose to be getting 16 sacks a year, they rarely ever get pressure.

I would love to have a great pass rushing OLB, but I wouldn't draft one, after seeing what Gholston turned out to be. Getting a proven one would be nice.

Would Adalius Thomas be a good signing for the Jets? He is rumoured to be let go by the pats in early march. Also, he's a former Raven so he should be able to slip into Rex Ryan's system without too many problems.

I think he'd be a great signing for the Jets, and actually can see that happening. He's got a lot of respect for Rex and Rex would use him much better than the Pats did.

If the Jets did sign him, already having Pace, Harris and Scott on the roster would make one formidable LB corps. Then they could focus on drafting a DE, CB and IMO, a block-oriented TE to free up Keller so he can be in the slot more often.

I see you know your American football, Aussie. That's definitely true, and under Ryan AD was used as a DE, LB and safety. He's not exactly young, but if they pick him up he could be a serious piece to making that a top defense for the next couple of years.

Thanks. Its surprising how popular American football is in Australia, especially with kids in high school. Maybe the NFL will bring a game to Oz, which would be awesome.

                  Anyways, back on topic.

I think that having Thomas on the other side would help take the pressure off Pace being the "designated pass rusher" and should generate more sacks which the Jets lacked especially at the start of the season.

Another thought, if the Jets do keep Gholston, couldnt Rex Ryan use him more as a DE in passing situations? If he hasnt already I mean. From what I've read about the guy, he originally was a DE to begin with.

The Jets created this problem - they were the ones who told Darrelle they'd redo his contract, and that was months ago.

Jet's sign Trevor Pryce. He's old but man Jets needed some help on the line, should help with depth and maybe he'll be motivated and fired up by this active defense.

****ing Rex Ryan. His leadership will be missed in Baltimore. I'm not sure how much he has in the tank though. He wasn't doing much for the Ravens this year, and that's considering some of the young players we expect to eventually man the pass rushing duties haven't been able to suit up yet either.

I still like Rex (and LT) so I'm pulling for yoru boys, but my team is right up there with the J-E-T-S so no need for me to pack up and sneak out in the middle of the night. Plus, I'm still celebrating not having Bart Scott on the team anymore... can't run to his new team.

I honestly don't think Pryce will do much for your boys but don't like losing leadership, and don't like how Rex came after him.
